I am trying to keep negativity out of this thread, so I'll suffice it to say that although featuring... ahem.... intriguing styling and decent suspension, the FT-86 doesn't grab my attention. I don't find it THAT attractive and I normally don't forget that I don't live near the Nurburgring.
I have a 215 hp, 4 door sedan that I personally feel looks better. I won't be trading in my IS 300 for one of these. It's an interesting car, but not interesting enough. Just my opinion, I'll butt out and continue reading everyone else's opinion now. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. So yarik, now we're comparing 86's to evos and 370z's...the point of this car obviously escapes you...don't buy one and stop talking about it, lol... haha ya honestly it will handle better than both these cars, just wont go faster on the straights. Toyota I guess has never been about competition (more of I'm going to be unique), but at the same time this was a joint effort so I'm not sure the targeted competitors they were after. Honda S2000 was pretty much up to par with the 350z a few years ago. This car will be in a class of its own I say... design wise, ya toyota did a ok job, they needed the old engineers from the 90's to design the 86. those old school engineers new a thing or two about designing a sleek body exterior. -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

All I am trying to do is to steer people away from a purchase they will regret.
Above and beyond anything else people need the following: -Functional vehicle -Affordable vehicle And only delusional people can find functionality within ft-86. For one this will be a scion in good ol usa where russians do put carts ahead of the horse. You should too because thinking ahead can and will prevent you from the following comment made by you the purchaser: "Ohh man how do I make it go faster without spending $10,000 on it?" And before you the consumer will say... nah that could never happen to me.... do refer to www.6gc.net where for about a decade hundreds if not thousands of car guys have asked precisely that question while driving slow poke ST and GT here in the states. Engine swap costs a ton. I have been there and even when I could afford one... it was still darn expensive. Also this will NOT be a bigger brother for scion tc. Instead this will be its step brother from another mother wearing tight black jeans, dark highlights around eyes and purple nails. And being a step brother is not always good. It means that you will have to share just about everything body styling and internals inclusive. I compare this vehicle against others because any vehicle should be compared against others. Otherwise you will make a really bad decision like buying a dodge magnum which breaks every 3000 miles. I just want you to consider this: MSRP for this car will be around $25,000. $600 dealer destination fee $1400 in taxes, fees, registration etc. So this is a $27,000 car. Subaru WRX starts at $26,000. $34,000 if purchasing sti version. Evo starts at $34,000 when bought new. Either will cost about $25,000 when bought used with reasonable miles, that took 30% hit in price and will give you and your wife more giggles while still being a functional family car that will cost identical to a new FRS. If that does not sway your decision then I do not know what will. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

42k or 30k for a slow snail, 25k for a slow snail, 15k for a slow snail. Does it matter. I need to find out wich ford econovan so i can buy it and pimp it and salm a turbo, and gt4 bakes, and go from there. no im not a hater, im just saying, I love the orange peel pearl they came out with... lol i read in another forum a 80 civic can beat this one. i say, nohhh,, they sayd yeahhh, so i was lols.. Do you realize how ignorant your last 3 posts have been? You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Lol, and this coming from the guy who had to ask the 6gc community "lets talk about 86's" go drive one, it is a slow snail...that doesnt make it not fun...i have driven multiple 86's and every single one was no faster than my celica gt...but i enjoyed each of them thouroughly. $25k for a brand new car isnt THAT bad... In 5 years these will be $10-$15k which is incredibly affordable for what this car is and what will be available for it aftermarket wise. If you want fast and cheap, go buy a crx and drop a k20 in it if thats really what suits your fancy...I personally could care less about an ugly fwd rocket and what it can "beat" in a line, the fact this car is rwd makes it better than any civic in the world in my eyes. As far as evos and stis, yeah, they are available for those prices. Different strokes for different folks, thats what makes auto tuning so great, not everyone needs to be rolling around in the exact same whip. Im personally hoping the ft86 interior can top the boring wrx/sti/evo interior, we'll see. Everyone just needs to take this car for what it is. Be happy Toyota is making something other than sedans, trucks, and suvs... This post has been edited by mak5603: Nov 30, 2011 - 11:52 AM -------------------- 2006 BMW 330i - 6 Speed - Dinan Stage 1

Seriously, why lock? Its just a discussion. Just lots of mis info from people who dont know what to expect from corolla ae86 round 2. Im just making a reminder this is NOT yet the new supra, but if this goes well, we could possibly see that in a few years...And if the supra revival is only 200hp everyone has every right to talk crap about it.
People were probably complaining when they realized how little hp the 4age produced back then and look how that car took off. Its an icon now. If you have driven an ae86 and liked it, you will like this. If you have driven an ae86 and didnt like it, you wont like this. And if you haven't driven an ae86, you can't say you wont like this just because it only has 200hp... Im not trying to step on toes, i just love ae86's and from everything that i have read from people who have been close to this project or actually driven this car say it is what we should be expecting. You guys in US are lucky having cheap brand like Scion. Anything whatis Scion must be cheaper (if not it would be called Toyota or Lexus). So seeing 86 with price tag like in the US I would be happy. Brand new 200HP RWD car for $25k? What a price! Great fun car. But $42k??? Would you buy this car in the US for $42K? That is why I'm disapointed. For this price I expected damn more fun to get... that is all.
note: just see numbers of Mazda's announced RX-9. That is what I was expecting from 86 after YEARS of waiting and two concepts... -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

good grief... even the brz just went the way of the altreza. Ohh well.
Quietly retreats into his cubby hole. I guess its time to start fresh and wait and see if supra or mr2 is ever revived. Also ... judging by how mazda handles their rx line I think rx9 would be a VERY enticing alternative to frs. Between aftermarket performance and body kits from veilside... this will be a pretty car. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

And hybrid system (so lower consumption) as a bonus or design based on Shinari Mazda concept is really good vision to me. note: I would not be surprised when Toyota find out how big mistake they did to see "sport version of 86" in 2013-2014 for sale . -------------------- No more replicas... Do you realize how ignorant your last 3 posts have been? Oh my god we have a winner folks, Do you own stock for the Snail FRS, wow, i bet you were part of the design. Let me tell you a bit of a Story, i can buy any car I want, and dont want, for that matter. But ill buy this one thinking about you and ill slap quadruple turbos, muffler bearings and 32 inch spinners. Slap some VTEC stickers and tripple spoilers... I like to stir things up once in a while Chilll mak5603 havent u noticed most of my posts dont make sense at all. Im trying to talk to the level of a 16 year old, so we can understand all each other. Ok ill stop before i get moderated.. Here is my real opinion, some options on the car suck, will i buy one, maybe, depends on the us market presentation. Im more into nostalgic Old School now. Those are the roots. And Sorry, no AE86, that is not nostalgic. yet. It will be one day. Im talking about the real nostalgic ones.. like the 72 Mark II i just got. But to everyone thats willing to put your hands in fire for this car, good for you, but wait until it reaches us shores, no more speculating... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... Point 1: There isn not just 1 model coming...it should be 3, subaru, Toyota and SCION
Point 2: This is nothing like an EVO/STI/ect ect ect stop comparing apples to oranges. They all cost 40k NEW. Point 3: If you want to argue something HP doesn't make a fast car..POWER to WEIGHT ratio does... EVo = 11.86lbs/hp STi = 11.39lbs/hp valid comparisons: RX8= 12.72lbs/hp S2000(softop Ap2) = 11.66 lbs/hp Miata = 14.17 lbs/hp and FT86 = 12.85lbs/hp Point 4: So far "on paper" non of the cars half you people bring up are going to handle as well as the 86, look at the CG and how low everything sits. the 86 is 460mm from the ground...LFA is 445mm...STI and EVO are over 500mm not to mention a 53:47 distrobution..its balanced learn how to argue legit points or stfu.
