ah touché, i was told overboosting was the turbocharger forcing more air in than the engine can digest/more boost is required, hence the bov point. I will have chat with my lecturer. He's a materials scientist teaching vehicle dynamics, "go figure" i believe is the term; i would have thought the guy would get his facts straight before lecturing on it. Maybe in engineering its different, but i doubt it. however i don't appreciate being patronised oobe, wether i may be right or wrong, try to have some respect for people please bro.

Where did you get your mechanical engineering degree from?

WTF? When did I disrespect you? Just because I'm showing you're wrong makes me disrespectful? How old are you Twelve? laugh.gif Have some thick skin, guy. Lighten up. I'm calm when typing to you. You simply said something false, and I cleared it. 7A-FTE noobies read these posts, and by you saying all those wrong facts and stating that you're an engineer, they'll do what you say, even though you have NO experience with the engine. When it's time for you to work on the engine, then write about it. Until then, quit writing about something you know nothing about. Do what I did: waste tons of money on this "worthless" engine, and then share your findings. In the meantime, stop writing hearsay. You just showed that you did that. wink.gif

im still doing my degree.
i say disrespect me cos there is a small miss understanding and you write a reply talking to me like child. fact is, i put up a post trying to collate some info that i've spent weeks looking for into one easy lump, and because theres one or two things where we're not on the same wavelength theres an epic fuss.
ill take the thing down, let everyone find it themselves if this is what i get for trying to help people.

So what you're saying is that some text that you read on an Internet forum got to you so much you felt offended? So you called the guy (me) a jackass? You expect respect yet disrespect someone when you feel disrespected? Man, you are a hypocrite. laugh.gif

Anyway, back on topic. Continue with your "findings"...that have been found long time ago, LOL.

Well then you are not engineer yet, are you?
I'm in my second year of schooling majoring in the same thing, but I don't go around posting something that I am not.

Being and engineer doesn't mean looking at something and saying.... oh, because I am an engineer, I recommend that part being forged because forged is better. If that was the case, anyone could do engineering ("yes, use the stronger one").

I was actually excited to read your post when I thought you were an engineer but then became disappointed as I continued reading. Engineering is about science and math. Where is your math at? How did you test for tensile strength? How did you apply Chemistry to the combustion process to determine a safe boost level?
I want to see math formulas being used! I want to see the laws of physics being applied! Thats what engineering is all about!

I'm not trying to flame you. If you can do any of these things, add them to your original post.

ps.
It would also be a good idea to research the difference between a blow off valve and a waste gate, as the info you posted about both is way off base. Also compressor surge is not something that can ever damage your motor.

I spoke to my lecturer today, he maintains that overboosting and compressor surcharge is the same. However he also incorrectly explained VTEC so I'm discounting his information. I have ammended my article, for all those who want maths on parts, do it yourself, I don't have any info on the materials used so I cannot work out stresses and no. of cycles to fatigue failure etc. More importantly it is meant to be a SIMPLE SUMMARY, not an in-depth analysis, and yeah i got some experience, try 9 psi on a 7afe corrolla being fine and 12psi throwing a rod and punching a hole in the crank case. I also work designing parts for a fluid couplings firm, so yes, I am an engineer whether i have a piece of paper with "MEng Hons" written on it or not. If anyone wishes to continue to piss and moan, I don't care so save it, as long as my information is now correct.
