ha ya I think that normal but of course toyota dealerships are always overpriced. How the hell would toyota do an engine swap, its illegal to do that engine swap into your car. Did they even know what the 3sge redtop beams was?

Yeah I wish I could but I only have one car now and it uses a lot of gas plus I need it and the wife also needs it at the same time so now I just want someone to finish it. Its pretty much the same price anyway. I don't have an engine hoist or an engine sTand so that's like $300 right there might as well pay 500 and not worry about it although that doesn't include the electrical n parts... I don't know...I really want to finish iit myself but we really need that second car...

LOL YES PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!! FIND ME A GOOD TOYOTA MECHANIC!!!! I WILL PAY!!!! bowdown.gif

whats your budget?

I have enough smile.gif according to what I have been quoted before... Just for shizes and giggles I went to toyota dealership n they wanted 2000 just in labor to start off. I told them they were insane.

its hard to recommend but anyway i believe you know how to deal with mechanics. they just need your guidance. the only thing that bothers me is when i checked them on yelp, they only have 1 review and it was bad. in my experience, its was ok. my car was overheating before and i believe it needed the head gaskets and they did a test and it seemed to have an internal leak. i gathered parts that i needed. quoted me $500 for the labor and then after they took it apart, my head was bad so they got me a new head that was ~$300 and some parts that i forgot like idler tensioner and misc stuff. they didnt charge me to put in the new radiator.

they're located around mira mesa/miramar area.

i hope this helps, txt me if you have any questions.

OK so today i looked for mobile mechanics on craigslist and I found this guy in mira mesa, his name is eddie. I was skeptical cuz he talked just like i do (cuss words and all) and a little weary. Well he shows up and he's probably around my age like 25 or so and he's driving a modified or swapped civic dressed in a jumpsuit. We started talking about stuff and I guess he's done swaps and stuff so seems cool, seems to know a lot. He's going to charge me bout $800 to finish the job. So it sounds reasonable. I told him to do it. So he'll be here saturday to drop the engine and sunday to tow it and the BEAMS to his house and finish the rest. any thoughts???

yup, the car in his house, a lot to go wrong. hmm, does he even have a license to work as a mechanic, is he insured or bonded, remember if he even breaks a sensor, like the vvti one, thats 250 in the bucket. I would not trust him if hes not licensed, bonded or insured.

yeah I'm taking the risk screw it... I usually wont but I'm pretty desperate. They seem cool. Both of em are Marines and they seem really proficient so I'll let them do it. They did a pretty good job taking the engine out. I'm going to delay it for a couple of weeks though so that I can get parts in and some extra cash from the tax returns!

Oh by the way nics the guys that painted my car did a pretty good job and are cheap. They are located in spring valley, I'll ask them. I met them at church...

I paid $1000 including them doing a great job on the GT4 hood which is aluminum replacing and fixing the fenders, painting and putting on the TRD splitters. oh modifying the necessary to fit the gt4 front bumper and to make the hood latch work, painting the riser blocks and other stuff that I cant remember but they charged me cheaper cuz i met them at church but I could take you down there...

oh yeah craigslist turned out to be a bad idea. I can't believe these idiots. They did a good job but they turned out to be really immature and full of drama. My daughter supposedly wet their iphone (which apparently was on the floor probably near the grass) and they wanted me to pay full price for the phone. I told them that I wanted to see it first but he didn't want to show me the phone so i could confirm that there was water damage. He said that the battery wouldn't charge all the way. I used to sell phones and had people come in with water damaged phones and that was never one of the symptoms. If you get your phone wet it stops working altogether, it does not just cause battery damage. So anyway he wants me to just give him $325 just like that. He also kept making excuses that he didn't have the phone but he kept calling and texting from the same phone. then they started making threats when I insisted on them bringing the phone so I could see it. So I told them to screw off and if they come on my property or near my family, they will be arrested. To top it off they're "Marines" what a disgrace....anyway thats the gist of it...
