Always wanted a Celica since the first day I saw one back in high school many years ago. Went through a bunch of junkers, til my little bro wrecked my taurus coming home from prom. With the tax return and the little my insurance provided, saw the 95 Celica ST 5 speed, my favorite car color high gloss black, on a lot next to a bunch of civics. Stood out so wonderfully, double took a couple days, asked the price, paid cash, and here I am. Tweaking away.

My story is a bit different from the others. I really did not ever think I would have a celica. Always liked the style of them. I had a 1999 grand am that the engine blew up after 150,000 miles. I was the first owner and I got it new and It was my first car I ever owned an had a note on. Well I was on a budget and needed a rebuild so I took it to a shop and they was suppose to rebuild the engine for 1500.00. Well the shop wanted 1000 for parts so they said. Well I gave the $1000 to them an 4 days later I happened to stop by to see the car an the progress being made. And to my suprise there was a engine like mine on the floor in the shop. I asked is that mine? They said yes an I said well It was suppose to be a rebuild not a engine out a nother car. Well I was pissed and wanted my money back. Well by then I found out the guy got the engine cheap and spent the rest on child support. I found out that he was about to go to jail for none payment. Well I raised hell from then on. About 1 week later ha gave me $100 and said he would pay me each week I did not like this but It was the only way I was getting my money. Well he made 1 payment and the shop closed down. Well from the 1st day I was at the shop there was a black celica I seen in the parking lot. After the shop closed I wanted payment or some typeof payment. So I asked about the celica an what was wrong. They said it was a guys that owed him money. And it was blown. So After about 1 month I filed suit for my money and he then offered me the celica but he would have to work somthing out with the owner. Well he signed a promisery not with him and If he did not get paid for the celica he would get the mechnics tools. Well he never paid I got the celica and the old owner of the celica got all the mechanics tools. Everyone came out happy but the mechanic that screwed me around.

my first car was a 1987 Celica GT coupe, I loved everything but that fact that it was a coupe, so when time came that I needed a newer car, I looked at 5th, 6th and 7th gen, and the choice was clear 6th hatchback, red like the other, I wished it was manual, but for the price and condition of the car, I couldn't pass on it.

It was decently cheap, and had very low miles for its year; "cherry," as the salesman described it. Having just driven a Cavalier vert, THIS car was like a sex goddess on wheels. Test drove it and loved it...not fast, not quick, but drove very nicely, comfortably, and would be good on gas. I loved the black interior, the way the center console swoops down to meet the hands of the driver on the shift lever...sadly, this driver would only be moving it straight back and forth...either way, I fell in love. They always say a first car is a great love...well, I think I'd love this regardless. As we all know, they look fast, yet aren't. This isn't really a problem on a low budget. 30+ MPG is very nice. I'm also an interior type of person and the first time I saw it, I just thought the all-black dash was dead sexy, as was the exterior. A baby Supra. Beautiful. My baby. <3

Oh, but she needs some work. We'll get there.

I was looking for a diesel car, an Audi A3 or Seat Leon at a dealer, when I saw a Celica in the back of the store. I forgot about why I wanted a diesel and just bought my Celica. I don't regret it for a second. biggrin.gif

Yes griffgurl you are right with the 15yr rule. American likes to wait 25 years for such rules to NOT apply. And as far as shipping it over through the military. Lol, my friend LilJoe on this site acn answer that question best. I think it goes, that their is a list the military has that says what cars they will/will not ship. A non-conforming list i think is what its called. And to ship a vehicle pretty much, you have to find your own importer, one that can bring the vehichle up to "stateside regs" and the the military will worry about shipping. Noe of course your vehicle will still have to be on that list saying that it non-conforms, and needs this and that to be legal in america. And yes the 6th gen is on that list. Not too sure if it covers the GT4 though. But that for vehicles coming from japan. And the rules are different in europe. Also i think i mightve gotten some of that info wrong tongue.gif

Oh and also, griffgurl yes there are two wars going on and having money sent to the troops over there is a very important thing. Lol, trust me im here now, and if we need something ill be glad to get it. But also, you have to keep in mind that the shipping of cars and vehicles at the militaries expense, is one of our benfits. Due to us PCS'ing all the time, and its meant to help take the load off of our backs when we move base to base. And yes its useful. Over the past 6 years ive only spent 1.5 years in the states, and i had to leave a car back in america that im still paying money on, just for the military. IM not looknig for sypathy, but hey, thats how it works out for us.

And besides they (the goverment) set aside so so much money every fiscal year for things like that which shuold cover all branches...so ehh....

besides im sorry but i think ive gotten this thread alittle off subject...sorry mods biggrin.gif

I appreciate the perspective you offered about the military easing the burden of you guys overseas having to ship stuff home. I think that's great, and I totally support it. However I just think that there's some priorities that are seriously out of order. I'd rather see more guys come home alive than more personal belongings, like cars, being shipped home. I personally think the military paying for cars to be shipped is excessive. Furniture, stuff like that, sure. You guys give up a LOT to serve our country. Again, however, it's a matter of priorities.

Heh my first car was a white '89 coupe... I thought it was ugly as hell but it was my consolation since I couldn't afford a 6th gen (which was new at the time) and 5th gens were still pretty spendy. That car ran like a CHAMP though.

Mine was a black '86 GTS. A friend of mine at the time with a red alltrac helped me swap it to GT2 - that car was the biggest money pit and I soooo didn't know how to care for a DD/Raced swapped car. I ended up selling it to get my first 6GC - still miss that car. kindasad.gif

Celica #1 (1995 ST hatchback - Black)- I had a 1992 VW GTi and the motor decided it wanted to take a dump on me. My mother had a couple 70's Celicas that she put 300,000 miles on, so she suggested I look into the Celica. I test drove a 4th gen and hated it. Drove a 5th gen and hated the dash layout, and I actually never test drove my first Celica. My dad brought it home one day and I fell in love.

Celica #2 (1994 ST Coupe - Yellow)- had my first Celica for a couple years, and decided I wanted another. Coomer was selling his coupe, so I drove over and bought it. Shortly after it started having electrical problems. I dumped thousands into that, and then sold Celica #1 to buy my WRX. Shortly after I moved out of my parents and was forced to sell Celica #2 to pay bills.

Celica #3 (1996 ST hatchback - Black)- had my WRX for a while and decided it isn't practical for my 1 mile commute to work (yeah I'm lazy- so what?) so I found a 96 limited hatchback nearby and scooped it up. This is my current Celica.

I bought it because I love the ssIII and the GOD GT4. And the other reason is that my friend has the 6th gen and it has almost 300k miles on it, and it's still going strong. Long Live 6GC.

Back from the dead as I was searching for all the progress threads.

I saw the car on craigslist and it was fairly cheap, I think they wanted $1500 for the car. I loved how the car looked when I first saw it (never seeing one before). I went down to take it for a test drive and I fell in love with it. The curves looked amazing, the ride was nice, and overall it was a great car for the money. My dad talked the guy down to $1200 so it was a good deal on my part biggrin.gif

needed to sell my '96 Mustang GT 5-speed since it was horrible in the snow, so i was searching for a stratus coupe/3rd gen eclipse 5-speed. then narrowed my search to 2nd gen eclipse gst/gsx 5-speed, then decided to search for a 5th gen celica since the 6th gen was ugly (or so i thought) then i saw a pic of a gt-4 (i think) and was like :0 so i searched for a 6th gen 5-speed celica, found one that was in horrible condition.. i didnt look at it. when i sold my mustang, i needed a car quick since i had school 4 nights a week, so i decided to look for auto too, saw mine on craigslist, went to look at it, test drove it, then bought it.

i thought i was buying an Integra but instead i ended up with this piece of crap, suppose that's what you get for buying a "Japanese sports coupé" without actually seeing it......

i kid, i kid don't shoot me.

i was after a Mazda but test drove the Celica and thought why not it's cheap it's cheerful, then i got home found it was an import and my insurance for the year doubled, its not so cheap any more, still cheerful though.
