i just bougt RAGE sport seats.
nog i have problems fitting them. they came with universal rails. and to make them fit i firt made a platform. and mounted the seats on there. now the problem is that the seats are way to high. i m allmost sitting with my head against the roof. so does anyone have any hints how i could meke them fit. i tought buying a platform from sparco or something like that but i couldn't find one for a 6 gc now how much difrence is there in the mounts of a 5 gen a 6 gen and a 7 gen ? so that i might buy a 5 th or a 6 th and customise it (and i did do a search, but couldnt really find what i needed ) -------------------- |

I saw an article in some magazine a while ago where they hacked some of the seatback off to make it fit.

I think you have to use part of the universal rail and
your 6gc rail and weld them together. That what Ive read, but dont quote me on it. PM Valo666 he has done this type of thing recently with his sparco seats. -------------------- 98 ST204 ZR - Black Beauty - Roaming the streets of Sydney 73 TA22 LT - Tiffany Blue - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 75 TA22 LT - Snow White - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 77 RA28 LT - Flubber Green - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 94 MX-5 NA8 Clubman - Red Racer - Looking for corners WIP Project: 69 RT40 Corona, 2nd WIP Project: 66 RT40 1600s Corona 86 Corona RT142 - Daily Driver 6GC 4 Life Baby!!! |

you need to drill the mounting tabs off your stock sliders
then weld them properly to the universal sliders |

I just bought some racing seats myself, so you HAVE to weld? Theres no other way to take the stock brackets off and put them on the universal sliders?

I plasma cut my sliders off. I had too. trying ti drill out the tabs didn't work. I then bought 4 pieces of flat bar. I bolted the sliders on my car then welded 2 flat bars across the sliders. one front and one back. Your sliders will bolt on to these. I just welded my sliders to the flat bar.

yea your goin to have to weld....
can't you just plasma cut the tab off the slider? thats pretty much the only way you won't smack your head on the roof unless you fabricate new tabs? |

Well what I did last night was dremmel the tabs off of the part of the rail thats holding the slide mechanisim from the back, the little triangle thing, then we are going to get extender bars and drill the stock rails onto my aftermarket seat, hopfully I wont have to weld. Ill have pics soon....

Back from the dead. I'm attempting to do something similar. So far, I've gleaned:
* Really important to get the brackets TIG-welded for tensile strength * Some have had success cutting the tabs off with dremel or by drilling out the rivets, where as others have had to resort to a plasma cutter So I have some questions: * I see that on my Celica seats, the brackets are both welded and riveted. What is the name of that type of rivet? It looks very heavy duty and has a cylindrical head. * Should I be trying to rivet as well as weld the brackets onto the rails for my new seat? * The distance between the rais for my new seats are about 40mm (almost 2") narrower than the Celica seats. What have other people done when they can't use the existing Celica brackets? This post has been edited by BloodyStupidDavey: Oct 10, 2009 - 6:48 AM -------------------- Davey
