I was wondering if there is a difference between a 94 5sfe head from a Celica, and a 96 5sfe head from a Celica? Are they interchangeable? If not, what's the major issue and what would need to be done in order to install a 94 head onto a 96 Celica? Thanks.

If they're both Fed spec they should bolt on just fine I'm not sure about the Cali spec ones though.

What are the differences between the Federal Spec head and the Cali spec head and why are they not interchangeable? How can I tell them apart?

What are the differences between the Federal Spec head and the Cali spec head and why are they not interchangeable? How can I tell them apart? is the engine still in 1 piece in the car? check for an addition cat converter, or extra o2 sensor. otherwise its real hard to tell |

Well I plan on buying a head that 6strngs is selling, and I assume it is already off the car. It's more about whether or not the head will physically bolt on and mechanically operate and function correctly. So what is the difference on the CA spec heads that would make it not an acceptable replacement for a Federal spec head?
Thanks for everyone's help so far, it's greatly appreciated. -------------------- |

Hmm ok, so then I guess the only way to find out for sure is by getting the head and comparing them directly. I will record my findings.

Well according to my toyota repair book it says the cali-spec head has a extra air port in the back of the cylinder head for the egr and the egr has an extra air hose that the fed don't have. The egr vsv has a control switch for the fp and like mentioned before the injectors are smaller and has an extra grommet/o-ring on them.

im actually looking for a rebuilt head myself. and through my searching i have found that there is a diff between the two. on the cali spec head on the intake side there is a hose nipple in between the injector ports. easy to notice.

Hey man how much are you buying your head for? I just blew my head gasket and prob won't have enough money to ship it out to a machine shop to have it redone if it's in real bad shape.
