Audio Questions, Im a dumbass and need some explaining Options

so this isnt necessaraly for now, but i was thinking after i get my interior redone i wanna work on the audio system in my car. and well i know absolutely nothing about that stuff. i mean like what brands are good and what should i look for? what are the sizes and if i buy the right size can i just replace them, im hoping to do this all by myself. i dont think its that difficult its just im so foreign to it that i dont really know what to do and dont want to get ripped off if i try to buy the stuff at a store. i dont want to spend too much but i want a pretty good sounding system. what can i do to get good bass? i dont want to put in subs in my trunk. thanks.

as far as learning the basics on sound systems and picking components i would recommend checking out the crutchfield.com's tutorials. very very informative.

as far as finding custom jobs and ideas for our 6g, use the search engine and you will find everything you can think of and things you havent.

For your bass problem there's only one good choice. The JVC CSBB2 6" Subwoofer. It'll fit under the passenger seat with a remote lead to control the volume. Just make sure you purchase a stereo head unit with a subwoofer RCA jack output. Much easier to hook up that way! Here's a look at it!

Just for your information I use a Panasonic CQ-C5305U as I had an Alpine & Pioneer fail in less than a year. The Panasonic fits perfectly, has all the power you'll need, works with the JVC subwoofer and your Ipod and most importantly keeps working! For bass without subs in the truck,id recommend putting 2 8" subs in your front doors,the factory speakers are 6.5" with a bracket in a 8" hole.You'll need to buy and wire in a head unit to run the amp to run the subs...u can get a whole system for less than 400$.

As far as brands id say infinty(speakers),alpine(headunits),kenwood(just about everything),pioneer(everything is good)the list goes on and on,try to stay with big brands and dont buy off brands(ebay).Search your local craigslist,usually theres great deals on there.



I also agree with captb,crutchfield is a GREAT site to learn about car stereos..read,read,read and then read some more

I agree with CALI, infinity speakers are great, and I <3 anything kenwood, great brand.

Crutchfield is an excellent place to learn about everything audio, and even do product research, but they are very expensive, as mentioned above.

Yea sorry i forgot to add that,crutchfield has SOME good deals,but they are usually overpriced so id use it just to get info on a piece of equipment then buy somewhere cheaper

From what I have seen Crutchfield is pretty expensive. However, I got my head unit and speakers for $300.

its hard to tell you what you want for sounds, sounds is just really all preference. Crutchfield is a good start to read up on it but at the end you'll notice that you must find the right combination of equipment, and tuning to get that right sound especially for the type of music you listen to. Listen first to others setups in order to get a feel. From there the sound itch starts, you'll keep upgrading everytime new stuff comes out. Well at least for some people.

For the head unit, try and stay away from pioneer. They seem to alway's end up blowing the ground in the back of the unit and there's really nothing you can do about it, apparently made like that.
It recently happened to me, i had a pioneer Mosfet DEH-1650 it was a great head unit, but all of a sudden i could hear my engine sounds through my speakers. I went to go buy another one, because
i was certain it was something else, until the bloke at the shop told me pretty much all of pioneer's have the same problem. So i ended up buying a JVC head unit, and i couldn't believe after i installed it
how much of a difference it made. It's perfect at the moment, and couldn't be any happier. So im just pretty much here to tell you to stay away from pioneer, or at least it's a word of warning =]

Bass is heard best through 12" speakers. All levels can be reached. Just a FYI.

I've been rocking the same Pioneer head unit through 4 years and 3 different cars. It's a Pioneer Premier though, not just one of the base units you can pick up at Wal Mart. I've been through several different subs, and I have to say that my absolute favorite setup has been a 10" sub in the trunk, 300 watt amp, factory speakers (unamped), and the Pioneer head unit. Not too much bass, always enough though. I've been through several 10" subs, a 12", and a 15" Kicker L5. All I can say is stay away from anything bigger than a 12 in our cars if you value your hearing.

Remanight, I didn't say there's anything wrong with that. On the contrary, it's a lot of fun to have a couple of 12's hitting as hard as they can. I just meant that the hatchback design of our cars is perfect for a sound system. A single 12 with ample power is plenty loud enough, and anything else is overkill and destroying your hearing. There's a reason I got rid of that L5, box, amp, and wiring for $64 within 2 months of buying it all. I noticed I could barely hear what anyone, especially girls, were saying when they were talking to me. I would always have to ask them to repeat it. It sucked hard. I decided my hearing was moe important than being heard from 2 miles away, so I sold that setup and went stock until last month, and now I'm rocking a JL Audio 10Wo with a 300 watt amp turned way down, and it's perfect for my tastes, although there's almost nothing there for anyone else. Lilgreenyoda, you see my point exactly! A single 12 can be tuned perfectly for a hatchback Celi. Anything else is just for bragging rights and strictly for fun. And it's definitely fun.

We are a Independent company. We work on Homes, cars and boats. We do sounds either at the customers house or have shop access at ABC automotive. I have distributors in the city and in the burbs.
