Hey all. Just got half the exhaust put on and it's great. Its a custom 2.25" mandrel bent (one crush bend) stainless system with a resonator and a straight thru muffler. They didn't have enough time this weekend to do the whole lot, so next weekend I'm going to get a custom header fabricated, downpipe, possibly a new cat (exhaust bloke reckons it's all good) and a full custom stainless CAI.
With the CAI we are going to spend some serious time thinking about where to put the filter / pipe. The two real choices I think are: 1. In the front left fender (we would cut a bigger hole through the engine bay). Really interested in feedback on this cos I haven't ripped off the plastic under guards yet. 2. Or under the powersteering unit / battery. Which I think would probably require relocation of the powersteering unit, the battery, the top hose on the radiator, or all three. Any thoughts? I don't think I've seen anything other than a short ram intake on a 5S-FE engine before. Sorry about the flash it was getting dark. |

there is a big plastic box inside the fender. I just unscrewed the bottom of the fender unscrewed one bolt and ripped that sucker out of there.... and then i unscrewed the fuse box and pulled out the little piece thats under that..

Hmm.
Definately going to check that out when she gets hoisted. Really don't want to have the headfuk of moving stuff around too much. A big sharp saw is so much easier |

the problem w/ going under the fuse panel into the fender-well like that is the fact that unless you do some cutting on the metal, you will only be able to use about a 2" diameter pipe. also, it's a pain in the arse to get the pipe through the hole, then bent down and up toward the front mouth of the fascia. i used to have a setup like that on my car, but just looked so dinky. .

Ok do you mean the hole where the pipe leaves the engine bay or inside the fender near the top/side of the wheel well ??
I'd like to run the same diameter as the throttle body which is 2.5 or 2.75" I can't remember. That means there is definately going to be a big hole cut somewhere if I go this method! This post has been edited by kamixZR: Nov 1, 2003 - 2:51 AM |

yeah you'll have to cut on the side wall right next to the fuse box

Kamix, you dont need to custom fab a header. Genie and Hurricane make one for the 5SFE so that might save you a few bucks. For the intake system, the stock one will work fine if you cut out the sealed box in the wheel arch and just join a pipe from the front of the car to the existing plastic piping that is the stock air intake like in your first picture.
