Yes, people have for sure put mufflers on their 6GC...and we have NO idea how to tell you what it would sound like.

the sound difference is very minimal when running an aftermarket muffler with stock piping..it wont give you the full potential roar of it. i first had a greddy evo 1 muffler on my stock piping. it was crap, the sounds noticable. but not as much as id like it to be. later on i put in a short ram intake. the intake def gave a noticable sound. following that i finally got 2.5" custom catback. and that definitely helped make my evo muffler sound louder. and finally, once i put in my headers, it sounded like a beast has awaken..absolutely love it..deep tone..very loud..and it doesnt give me that fart cannon crap(depends on the muffler you get however). and i sound off a bunch of alarms everytime i drive in parking garages or neighborhoods. :] my celis a GT so it has more power than the st

Changing the oem muffler for a straight flowing cannon changes alot,

sound
------
theres alot more sound from just off idle to about 4000 rpm (even with a light foot)
loud bass rumble at 3000 rpm
idle is slightly louder
adds a few pops and bangs during gear shifts and deceleration

power
------
engine responds alot quicker to throttle blips - less hesitation
(although difference is negligible during acceleration)

weight
-------
major difference in weight between the oem muffler and a stainless cannon muffler

The intake is a LOT more fun to listen to than the exhaust.

I agree, the only thing I can say an exhaust is good for is you can hear the engine better and rev match better on a track or something, my dads cars stock and I always use it on the track and its a bitch to rev match because I'm not used to the car and its so quiet.

And you don't get power gain on crappy n/a cars with an already well setup exhaust.

I have a philosophy with cars, and I think it's true...always (and why I hate ****ty hondas):

The noise from your car when you accelerate should come from your engine, not your ass. If your car is roaring down the highway, thumbsup.gif . If your car is farting down the highway, thumbsdown.gif .

Hang on to the muffler if you want it and save up a couple hundred bucks and have an exhaust shop make you new 2.25" piping. Welding the muffler to stock piping will make it stupid loud and that's it. No performance gains, no light weight advantages, nothing. You'll be just like every other ricer on a budget.

7afe with ebay header and NO muffler sounds good as well...but is a little loud when you're on it or cruising above 3000 rpm.

I ran completely stock exhaust with a fairly cheap straight through muffler for a long time. It did absolutely nothing power wise, but it sounded good -- no bumble bee crackles or anything, just a smooth deep tone. But then the fun started... I needed to replace my pipe, so I decided to go with a 2.25" custom cat back, which meant I had to take off my resonator. After that, my car sounded like complete ricer crap... I'm talking epic fart cannon sound, lol. So I replaced the cheap straight though muffler with a flowmaster delta 60 (the one that's made for 4 bangers), and now my car sounds amazing. smile.gif

So, just going off of my experience, I would say that the muffler on your stock set up should sound okay... but if you decide to go with a bigger pipe, spend the money on a good muffler... otherwise you'll hate the way your car sounds.

The resonator is key to a smooth tone. Mufflers are good for volume, but resonators are good for avoiding the nasty buzz typical of uneducated car owners (aka pretty much every Civic with a three-inch pipe).

I just bought the megan n1 racing canister its a 3" outlet but it has a silencer on it that is like an inch in diameter i think once i get it on it will sound really good.

Question: What is an avg estimate on custom 2.25 in piping from header to canister

Only problem is that the Vibrant is not a resonator, it's a round-body straight-through muffler with bad product labelling.

A resonator does not use a "perforated core, surrounded by our premium multi-layer sound absorption materials." A resonator is an echo chamber. It bounces soundwaves into each other in order to cancel them out. The technology is entirely different, despite both items being round metal canisters affixed to an exhaust system. For a demonstration, find a true resonator (if you have the stock exhaust you have one) and tap on it. A resonator will ring like a bell; a straight-through absorbtion muffler will, well, muffle the sound and produce a dull thud.

Obviously, if you reduce the volume of an annoying exhaust note it will stop being annoying, but a resonator will get rid of the annoying note at any volume.
