would it be possible to use a awd tranny to make a rwd celica? I know that the topic of rearwheel drive celicas has been beaten to death but i cant find any info about not using a supra motor but using a 3s motor with an awd tranny and removing driveshafts or anything else. i love drifting my 2 ae86s but it would be sweet if i could sell them and make a drift celica.after selling them and with money saved ive got about 6k to work with. could i make my celi rwd using a 3s swap ,turbo or non? ive seen drift cars where they use integras with crv trannys and make it rwd only. just wondering if its been done and/or if it could be done.

I believe that it could be done with enough work and patience. However why not just keep one ae86 and sell the other so that you can modify the one?

because if i were to use my celica i could use the 3s motor and make alot better horsepower with it as opposed to using a corolla where there is no aftermarket support for a 3s platform. and i know that its possible to put sr20s and etc into rollas but i want to keep it toyota and try to make something differnt. plus, i think the celica with a 3s motor, which it was designed to come with(in diff. countries), would have better weight distribution than a swapped corolla.

You can NOT do it with a budget of 6k.

i know that the 2 jz can fit into a rolla with the proper funds. ive seen it done in magazines, in person, and in videos. i guess what im really asking is:
has an awd celica of the 6gc type ever been converted to rwd like the evos, talons, mighty max pickups, and wrx/sti for drifting or drag?

I think you just need a block in the tranny for the front wheels or something like that. I've heard the theory of how it's done, but it's been a while.

dudemy advice isto put a black top 3s-ge in that rolla you have, its been done, and its fun. N/A power, 6 speed, rwd 200hp

it can be done with 6K

Not for under 6K.

You need to get an entire 3S clip with rear subframe and all of the associated components, then you need to fabricate the mounts for the rear end, and have the transmission modified for RWD, and then I would have to worry that the ST205 rear dif can't handle all of the power, so you'd probably want to upgrade that as well. Then the motor swap, wiring, blah blah blah.

Save your money and just do the AWD swap. That will actually cost you LESS than rwd.

If you want rwd go buy a sc300/400/mr2/corolla/etc.

LOL Why stop with FR? I have always seen the 6gc as a good candidate for MR, kinda like the Bugatti, making vents even within the trunk of the hatch, and imagine seeing the motor from the glass. Of course a custom rear sub frame may need to be also made, so that if the engine needed to be worked on, it would be easier to get to. Although MUCH MUCH MUCH fabrication would be needed. I think with it's body style, drifting would be excellent for it. *sigh*, if I were to ever win the lotto or somehow become insanely rich, without forgetting where I came from, I would love to have one made.

what I'm not understanding is, if you're going to go to the trouble to try to make an AWD tranny work to create a RWD Celica, why not make the Celica AWD? IMHO AWD would be way preferable.

dont some jeep looking things i dont know what there called but have a locking system on the frnt wheels and once u lock em its awd and when unlocked i guess shaft spins while the wheels spin freely making it rwd....is there not any thing like that for gt4s. . . .that way when u wanna drift you can and when you wanna race in snow you can do that too basicly like a when active system but leaving it rwd when non active. . . . . maybe im off subject i didnt read everyone posts

He wants to use it for drifting, getting AWDs to break loose and regain control is much more difficult vs. doing it with a RWD one. That's why drifters prefer cars like the RX-7 over STIs (however Ken Block would beg to differ)

Ken Block is God.

In my opinion, the AWD tranny is heavy, and yes, you will have the benefits of drifting if it's RWD instead of AWD, but other handling benefits are much greater with AWD. However, it's more work to make the car RWD, for drifting only. I say stick with the AE86's for drifting, and the Celica for... whatever you deem a front wheel car to be best for. Just my opinion though, and I would admittedly worship you if you do make it RWD and drift it.

we're making a 2jz gen 6 next year once my gt4 is finished. easy to do if you got the know how and equipment.

done a few silly things like that now. rover v8 twin turbo and rear axle into a porsche 924, rover v8 into a dutton kit car etc...

you cant just drop in the 4wd box and blank out the front axles, will burn out in about 10 mins and will cause way too much problems than what its worth. you could try a lexus is200 gearbox and rear end with a custom bell housing but not sure how much that stuff costs in the states. you'd also need to turn the engine and the 3sgte doesnt agree to that too well. we'll charge quite a fair amount for that amount of work to be done as its all custom fitting which involves a LOT of time and work so i think 6k is pushing it tbh.

I've had that thought as well...if that could be done, the sexiest car on the planet would ensue.
