My emergency brake has started to randomly snap back down and disengage. Luckily I always keep my car in gear when parked. Today I was sitting in my car waiting to pick someone up and I heard this loud bang and got a nasty bruise on my knee from the handle smashing into it . Then later I returned to my parked car only to discover that the e-brake was disengaged again.
Any ideas on what is causing it to randomly decide to disengage? Is there a pin somewhere that broke? This post has been edited by flyinglizard: Jan 13, 2010 - 3:28 PM |

That's exactly what it sounds like, sounds like you have a broken spring or retainer cup on your shoe assembly. I'd lay money on the spring though, it sounds like the little hook part of the spring that holds the shoes taught when the ebrake is engaged is bent and not holding.
