Well My alternator is making a funny noise and getting hot. I am looking for a alternator for a 2nd gen 3sgte or 3rd if it fits not sure yet.
I would buy 1 new but I am not sure if mine is bad or I have another problem like a short making it hot. Dont want to buy a new one an burn it up.
Anybody pm me Thanks

Anyone know if a 5sfe will fit I read it does online but not sure

I'm pretty sure the 5sfe is the same alt. check the main wire coming off the alt (the one that is bolted on) and see if the first few inches of it are corroded and brittle. Mine got weak in this spot, cracked and failed, causing my alt to catch on fire.

The wire bolted on must have touched metal , the rubber gaurd has a hole in it and the bolt looks burnt
