I find it funny that people are saying that Toyota's credibility and reliability are all gone because of dumb asses who were to lazy to take their oem mats out b4 putting in the wal mart ghey rubber ones(this was before the gas pedal fiasco).

Basically it boils down to two problems that toyota is doing a recall for.
1) bad floor mats causing gas pedals to jam on 2) bad gas pedals causing the gas pedal to jam on 3) bad ecu programing causing the throttle to stay open even when the brakes are applied. (infinity and other car makers cut off the throttle when you hit the brakes) 4) toyota denying the problem existed until it was too late, and the fix was slow to come out and some people have doubts that the fix will work. Causing a huge public relations problem. 5) The press made an over the top claim telling people not to drive their cars until toyota had the problem fixed. scaring the **** out of everyone. 6) They traced toyota's records and found out the unwanted acceleration back to 2000 built toyotas, right when toyota started using drive by wire technology. That is what i have gotten from the news and my own research, more stuff would have came up recently that I am unaware of. But seriously, stuck gas pedals is something everyone has to deal with. Its not a brand new phenomenon. This post has been edited by Hanyo: Mar 2, 2010 - 6:24 AM |

This. x2 ![]() Damn, I hadn't even thought about it that way until seeing that post. Yeah, that totally makes sense. Well whatever it is, my opinion about Toyota hasn't changed the slightest bit. I'd still take a recalled Toyota over a sh*tty American car any day. Although in all fairness, it does look like the US mfrs are stepping it up FINALLY. They could be the best cars in the world, but until Toyota becomes the Yugo of Japanese auto makers, I'll still buy a Toyota. -------------------- ![]() |

Although in all fairness, it does look like the US mfrs are stepping it up FINALLY. Yes, but what's being put out is still not all that great. Hallmark American cars are still trucks, SUVs, and pony cars. While they may be pretty good in their own right, they're not what's needed for the auto industry and the environment right now. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

I disagree to some point,i decided to do my senior project on the Bankruptcy of GM.It seems that Frtiz Henderson(former CEO of GM) has been rehired as a consultant.I quote from motor tend"At $59,090 per month, Henderson will make the equivalent of a $709,080 per year salary, or about $2,955 an hour based on his 20-hour-per-month work schedule." Full story:Link I think they are making steps to improve themselves, but bull**** like this shows that they still don't value the tax payers dollar. There is a lot that the news does not tell people and lot that Toyota has said that does not get aired due to governmental control.
-99% of the cases of stuck accelerators are actually driver error -If someone uses a factory floor mat hooked into the factory clips provided the mat will never slide forward and get stuck under the pedal. Never. -There have been less than 20 cases of legitimate stuck accelerator pedals (made by CTS) out of 4.2 million cars equipped with the affected pedals, all cases in cars with well over 100k miles. -If the accelerator pedal does in fact get stuck the car will not rev more than 2500-3000 rpm and can easily be overcome by the brake system. -Car and driver has an article about a test bring the Camry up to 70mph, and hitting the brakes with the accelerator still pinned to the floor and the vehicle still came to a stop in 190ft which is only 16ft longer than the same test without the accelerator depressed. The Ford Taurus braking distance from 70mph to a stop without the accelerator depressed while braking was 191ft. These are just a few things Toyota is telling their dealerships. Whether they are feeding us crap to make us feel better, I don't know, but I believe it. -------------------- |

To add to this (I have the article right here), they also performed 100-0 MPH tests, braking with the throttle fully open. The Camry did it in 435 feet, the G37 convertible in 326, and the Roush Stage 3 Mustang in 903 feet. Although 100-0 is less relevant than 70-0, you don't see that kind of stuff getting on the news either. This mean i can get a used toyota cheap from people who are scared of there toyotas. |

I have to agree with most of you guys. The U.S is just attempting to cause damage to Toyota. American cars have gotten better, but I'd still take a Toyota over any American made car..... I guess I too, will take advantage of the lower prices on Toyota parts and vehicles...

I read one statistic with the Corollas that there were less than 100 cases of the power steering out of 4.3 million cars sold. If that's the case, I blame driver error.
