I've been listing to Hip-Hop, from the days of its birth to the most recent.
I'd like to see what your listing to and what you consider hip hop.
What's a track you've heard that you never get tired of/will get tired of?
What or who would you consider the "best"?
Who puts of the most bull ****?
And if you could just state why you perfer so and so over so and so's music.

No need to answer all this stuff or any at all, just somewhat keep it on topic.
I'll state my favorite after a few post's , and please answer honestly. Don't be ashamed of your pick, just state who it is and if you get insulted on your pick defend why you enjoy their music, that's all. I'm be honest on if I hate or like what you listen to, so I expect you guys to do the same, no hard feelings.

Lets heep it hip hop.

My personal opinion obviously, Lil wayne as the best. Most of what he puts out, his own or on someone elses, will be playing in my car 80% of the time. As long as it doesnt have the autotune in it.

Dre, I listen to some of his stuff a fan of his but not much of a fan. Snoop is dope.
agreed. tech n9ne got some sick lines/tracks.
Mos Def is better in my mind. But he's more hip hop and tech is more gangsta rap.
Weezy.........well, he's sucessful I give him that.

Anyone listen to Jin the Emcee?

x2

Underground hip-hop is the only way I like to role anymore. Mainstream just makes my face cringe. Nujabes, Ugly Duckling, Jedi Mind Tricks, C-Plus. For more local scene's, I like House, Loan Some Thoughts, Project (sometimes), etc.

Cunning Lynguists, Jurassic 5, Run DMC, Jay-z, Atmosphere. I really don't like new rap much at all more of the underground type of stuff.

Everything i hear now is just kinda blends together.

Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb-Deep, KRS-One, channel live, Main Source, Smith -n- wesson, a tribe called quest, slick rick..., fat joe (old school fat joe)....etc

I only listen to old school hiphop from the 90s. Rap now is complete 100% garbage and makes me sick, Lil Wayne is probably one of the worst of so called rap i have ever heard. Rap today is such horse ****. Its not considered HIP HOP.

You young kids don't know real hip hop. I grew up listening to the real hip hop. what you kids know is called COMMERCIAL RAP! aka Pop Rap. Sad to see people still call this hip hop still...

That's a bit abrasive and rude to say. You should read the entire post before posting such a harsh use of words, telling me that I like to listen to mainstream.

Many would beg to say that now are the glory days of hip hop because of the availability of good beats/producers/MC's/cultural acceptance.

I will agree that it's turned into 'pop'...however, Lil' Wayne has skill, that is obvious. Drake is also pretty damn good, so is The Game (who actually creates somewhat meaningful songs and seems to have his roots in older rap). Snoop Dogg had his heyday, which is gone by now although he's still good. Eminem is good as well, although he's pretty much done. Dr. Dre is old school of course, so my list pretty much ends there. The rest, like Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, just suck.

laugh.gif Dude, lil Wayne has NO SKILL! I hardly listen to rap and I would challenge him to a rap battle just to prove it. You can tell him that by the way. And Ferdi, you know you're my boy, but all the rappers you just listed are all pop main stream Divas LOL. Eminem, ok... He is actually pretty good (just a cry baby who likes to cry about how bad his life is/was boo hooo... but a good rapper). The others? LOL You will find them on a NOW CD. That's all I gotta say about that.

Compare those rappers you like (take the beat out, since the beats help those pop wannabe's) and go accapella vs some of the underground guys we brought up. RA The Rugged Man, who no rapper will ever say "He Sucks", because they bite off him and visit him to learn from him. Listen to what he says about lil wayne on youtube >>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpQmgKumK-4

I already felt Wayne sucked and this didn't make me a believer. But someone who is great who ISN'T a pop star, because he does his own thing, is just schooling you on those wannabe's.

lol thank god for the two people that mentioned atmosphere. as they are keeping hip hop alive. hip hop was never meant to be this big, and thats the whole point, atmosphere is underground and are true to hip hop, they aren't about money like all these little sell outs. and dont get me started on that black mother****er lil wayne, he is not hip hop, nor rap. he is as pop as the jonas brothers or miley cirus, or that dumb wanna be country taylor swift. His last single prom queen is about high school drama thats meant for a 13-18 year old audience....how is that not pop??? for crying out loud. there is not a single good thing about him. as for good hip hop check out of course my favorite...ATMOSPHERE. followed by Hilltop Hoods, Sweatshop Union, classified idk those are just a few true people. here are a few songs that people can actually relate to.
Atmos

and

Hilltop

and this is a hilarious song that rips apart all these fake little rappers

thats not beef

i have so much to comment on im sorry, but im about to GENERALIZE BRUTALLY...

Im originally from Queens NY, so i have a good idea of what hip hop is SUPPOSED to sound like and i will put it like this.... overall... the south is RUINING hip hop. ie: soljah boy, gucci mane,oj the juice, wokka foka flame and ANYBODY that sounds REMOTELY LIKE THEM.

WEEZY GOES HARD! though i didnt like him and the cash money crew at first, i understood that as wu tang would put it, that was their chamber, BUT when everybody else in the south started rapping that nursery rhyme bull$H!t its all u hear now... now mind u im being VERY GENERAL ( LUDACRIS, T.I. OUTKAST,and ALOT MORE go hard, but overall the south= EPIC FAIL.

thanks to the south we missed out on the hyphie movement with mac dre and the rest, and all the cool music coming out of the mid west... to me, detroit and cali should have been on the map, and not what you hear on the radio today...

someone earlier got offended when someone said the kids today listen to garbage, sorry u got offended but ITS TRUE... its NOT hip hop.

I work with at risk kids and what they think generally sums up what's wrong with hip hop today...

ex: i will tell them Gucci mane is garbage and has NO talent. their response is "Well he makin money though! and thats what counts!"

My reply: HIP HOP is an ART. THOSE IDIOTS have NO RESPECT FOR THE ARTFORM and are not contributing anything to you ESPECIALLY THEIR MONEY... so what is there to admire? a catchy beat and no substance is the rule of the day.

btw: JADAKISS,WUTANG,BIG PUN,BEATNUTS,MOS DEF, T.I. lupe fiasco, joell ortiz are Some of my favorites

PERFECT EXAMPLE OF GARBAGE

PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HIP HOP: WIN

sorry..../rant
