sorry if you read this on toyotacelicas.com I am a member on both and am posting this on both forums in hope of more info
also i put this here due to my questions i have

Quick version
Im wil, i can get a basically free celica thats pissing oil but runs fine, the guy who has it drives it everyday, i know him, and he just drove it 3.5hrs one way then back again over Christmas never overhead he just had to put oil in it

I know how to do heads but i want to swap and im in no rush to finish this thing
I want to go 4age out of a levin/corrola that has the 6sp fwd trans
Will that engine and trans drop in?
if it doesn't what does?

If i get it and dive into it i will have pics, and more technical questions to fallow

If you want the whole story read all that is below

A little about me
Hello my name is wil. Mechanically I would say im good/better then average but im not a pro. I have hung exhausts, put a head on a civic, done timing, helped turbo an NA supra, and little stuff like alternators, starters, ect.....Also have done a bit of body work on cars, replacing panels, bondo work, rocker panel replacement and painting cars with the spray cans that are good. LOL dont know what to call them but they have real car paint and they fan instead of acting like a spray paint can. I currently have a 92 civic hb, a car to get around and is sorta fun but dont really want to put money and time in it. Some fun cars I have had were a 86 gts celica, a 82? celica supra, a 80 sr5 corrola, and a 90 si hatch civic. Can you see i prefer Toyota

The celica i can get right now
body
its a black celica with no sun roof but has gt side skirts. Its the hatch not the coup. Needs a front left fender and left mirror, the left door has a dent in it that could be fixed with bondo, but i would rather just replace it. Slid off the road at 20mph and hit a tree. Also could use a windshield, the crack is out of the line of sight and wont get you pulled over but I think it makes the car look trashy. Also has one headlight that is yellow tinted, looks like it had built up condensation in it at one point. I know it sounds ruff but it actually looks fairly good. And when priced out about 300$-400$ would make it look bran new - paint

mechanical

When in neutral and you give it gas oil drips right out the exhaust ftw! Also when this beast starts up it basically billows smoke for a good 2-3min. My best friend is a Toyota certificated and Lexus certified mechanic but he ships out for the airforce on monday so his help will be little to none. His thinking is a valve is all types of junked up and oil is poring into one cylinder or something like that. The person selling also claims it wasn't pissing oil like it is now until he sea foamed it and now it just goes right threw it, this sorta confirmed the ###### valve/valves for my friend. so it Basically needs a head and all the work that goes with it, timing, gasket, h2o pump ect,...... The person who is getting rid of the car says just keep oil in it and it will drive forever anyway. Says he had a corolla that did the same thing for 50k then sold it.

good stuff about the car
some good news on it when running no puffs of smoke out the rad cap or out the oil cap. Has good tires on it. Has a decent cd player. Interior is clean other then the seats, but they would be replaced in the end anyway.
the best thing is the person owes me 250$ cash, said i can just have the car and we call it =.

What i want out of the car

I have goals of a more autocross/fun handaling and a bit peppy car then a supper fast car. If I wanted to build a fast ass 1/4mi car i would find something to put a 2jz in and just boost the piss out of it, so I dont really care about turbo or not

Questions
first question do you guys agree, messed up head?

second question can i just keep oil in this thing and drive it for a wile 10k-15k maybe? I would rather just drive it for awhile save up and do a swap then put a head on it.

Third and the whole reason of the second?

I would enjoy trying a swap, I have been reading post for the last few days and found that the
4age is the simplest one to do.

the 4age i have found is out of a leven/corrola. Its labeled AE111 4age black top 20v, supposedly i can get this thing off the web for 1500 that has 35-55k on it and has the 6sp fwd trans ecu, starter, alt, all that stuff and thats with free shipping.
So my question is will this actually drop in?
Will the trans bolt up?

side notes

I have herd some stuff on what trans to use but i had a hard time fallowing it, so info on the trans would be very nice. Would love to use the 6spd but i doubt i will be that lucky for it to work

I dont want to have to modify mounts, i dont know how and i dont have a welder even if i did. Also i dont want to run up a huge labor bill on this thing. I know i will probably have to pay for some work but i want to keep it low if possible. I have plenty of time right now, I have storage, and I have a civic that runs fine so i dont need to rush this celica.

Thanks for your time
Wil

hi welcome to the forums,

your problem sounds like a bad exhaust valve seal or worse case senerio a crack engine head. A simple head replacment should fix the problem.

Since this is a GT celica the easiest swap you can do is the 3sgte or the 3sge from a mr2.

I would not keep driving the car with an oil leak simply because it gets the car more dirty and can possible clog up an expensive catalytic converter.

good luck.

i would recommend a 3sgte swap. a lil more work since i believe you have the ST

i would say fix that 1st before anything else. in my exp, i drove my car which has internal leak for 2 yrs. i waited until it got worst laugh.gif

it could very easily also be piston rings...

i would say with the damage to the engine and to the body... the car is worth about $600-$800 as it sits.. if you can get it for less... than i say go for it!!

st's had the option of a side skirt
gt's also had this option

4agze is a good swap for st cars
3sgte is a good swap for gt cars

if the head says 2200 on the top of it, its a 2.2L GT if not, then its the ST

Check the stickies and there's plenty of swap information out there. play around with the search button a bit and you should be able to find what you are needing.

Also, I don't know about your oil leak.
