As soom of you know, I am the not proud owner of a 1989 Nissan Sentra. I love that car but Haysoos Kreesto it is one hell of a beater car.
It runs like a champ and has given me more miles then I thought it had left in it. I was thinking about making this a "project" car. I have an interview in a week or so and if I land this government job I will have some job security, thus I'll have some income and an ability to up my car. Was wondering if any nissan owners, or people who just know could give me some suggestions to do. What I have on my list as possibilities: A new Engine (it has nearly 140k on it and is looking at me saying "I'm ready to retire if your ok with that.") New Shocks (mine right now still have some life but I'm sure that at some point, 140k have taken its toll on it.) A new muffler (its starting to rust out and I'm concerned that I won't have enough back pressure to start the car soon) New hoses (I replaced some hoses a while ago, but honestly don't trust em too much) Replacing power steering if at all possible (it leaks, kind of a bitch to deal with oil stains) Upgrade brakes (drum breaks, last legs) Give him some new fluids (oil and power steering is always covered but I'm not quite sure when the last time I put any water, brake, transmission or any other.) Replace fuel pump? (I see people do that so I figure it must have some functionality) Clean the ****er (I am lazy so it is often dirty) Get new tires (one has a gash in it so bad that I am afraid to push it past 40.) What else should I do? If there are any people in my situation, I would absolutely appreciate advice on what to do, where to go, what to look at, who I should talk to, etc. Ty all, Peace! If you're going to keep it, I say do necessary basic maintenance. However, if you have more money coming in, I say go for something you like. Since you're on here anyway...get a cheap 6GC.
And even if it is a Sentra...pics or BS! This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Nov 26, 2009 - 8:27 PM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

And even if it is a Sentra...pics or BS! lol damn, your impeccable logic has cornered me. Perhaps I should get one. Problem is I won't be making much a month, maybe a couple hundred a month, out of which 1/3 will got to taxes, most of the rest to college bills, and the last of it to food and music instruments (I am invested into a successful band). You want pictures of my beautiful Sentra ? I will give you some pictures that you will have a fantastic laugh about . Give me a day so the sun returns and I can capture the full beauty of it lol. -------------------- Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)

I bought my girlfriend a 95 Sentra GXE a couple years ago. Its a real reliable car (albeit broken at the moment - needs a new distributor). All that car needs is gas and oil and it'll run forever!

only problem with this is you start putting money into a car u end up putting so much into it that u end up to the point of you coulda bought a faster better more reliable car by the time you add up your coins
i did the math the other day, i coulda bought a 94-95 gt at the rate im going, but part of that was having to buy a nose for the car when i got it 140k on a nissan aint too much, id check the compression on the engine, if its good replace the timing chain, seals, and gaskets and you should be fine for another 140k im pretty sure if you did a tune up, all of what i mentioned above, new fluids as you said and a new exaust it will run better than before. the fuel pump should be fine as well, if you can get to the pump esily id check it and replace just the filter sock on the pump, but ebay pumps are cheap enough and you can get a whinebro for 100 coin This post has been edited by Joe_1985: Nov 27, 2009 - 5:04 AM -------------------- 94 stx coupe, super mario kart beater

I owned my NA 300zx for 3 years and it finally clocked out at 254k miles, and I loved the car to death in the middle of the TT swap as we speak, on the Z's maitence is very high, I'm not a big fan of Sentras or anything, but I will say this Nissan makes some very reliable engines, if you want do it, do it, don't let anyone tell ya different, but as stated above you will be putting money into a car so fast that all that money could have went so something alot faster and reliable, but it's all opinion...

I definitely want a new car because well... you'll see in a few minutes when I post up my pictures. I did change the timing belt because it freaked out that it would blow up on me. I replaced the head gasket, but I am not sure what seal you are talking about. How would I check the compression on the engine? I am a noob obviously and I really don't know the advanced stuff. Also how would I check the fuel pump? -------------------- Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)

Simple overview shot. Couldn't get any farther back because there is a wall behind me.
Classic Sig Reliable tires self explanatory Lovely engine bay That light points down. Kind of pisses me off. Quick video walk around. I had to brighten the crap out of it in order to see anything. You can see the bad editing. You'll get the idea though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWVkm9qJ4Io&fmt=6 How lovely and clean it is. That power steering is ****ing leaking, pisses me off. People who hit me leave marks such as... Dials explained on video If you look you can see a crack on the window in the middle of its dirtyness. It is what it looks like. I accidentaly stabbed holes into it while putting my guitar into the car couple of times. Quick shot of my interior So yeah, thats my car . I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. -------------------- Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)

Do you really need that steering wheel bar thing? If it was my car I wouldn't be worried about it being stolen.

you need to replace that tire ASAP before the tread separates from the tire and you kill someone or yourself.

Do you really need that steering wheel bar thing? If it was my car I wouldn't be worried about it being stolen. I live in the ghetto. As you may have seen in my pictures. My car is EXTREMLY easy to steal, trust me I've tried. Its just a minor deterent against people who don't like me. If they really wanted to steal my car, it wouldn't stop them I know, but, since there is an old school beamer right next to me, I want them to choose that car instead of a quick carjack that is my vehicle. QUOTE (bitter) you need to replace that tire ASAP before the tread separates from the tire and you kill someone or yourself Yeah I already did. It took me a long time to save up for a set of tires but I got them on finally. By the way the tear was on top of the threads, so as long as I keep it at low speeds, it would be fine. It has since been replaced, but yes this was my daily driver tires because of how epic-ly poor I am. QUOTE (mmmchocolate) wow. Thanks, thats what I was going for. I actually forgot to post up my rusted through tailpipe, but it was in the video so I thought I didn't have to. -------------------- Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)

What I should do is sell the ****er so I can stop paying so much for insurance and gas. I just don't have any sort of market for a car like this lol.
