Does anybody know what kind of power a ST204 tranny could handle? Lets just say i swapped in a second generation 3s-gte and ran nitrous for racing purposes....would that be a little too much for it to handle or would it be fine? A stronger clutch would be a must, but what about ways to strengthen the tranny like stronger axles, etc....or a different transmission altogether like the 3s-ge?

the tranny itself will hold up to about 300hp, no traction though and you have to be REAL careful about launching it (meaning don't). There's an LSD you can buy for it from TRD I believe. The axles, however, will not hold worth ****. Would need custom axles, like from driveshaftshop.com The 3sge tranny is better all around, can hold more HP w/o fear of breaking.

300 is stretching it, more like 250.

RaceTEP in NoHo, Cali built a 5SFE MR2 Turbo to 300hp on the stock tranny, said it runs fine, just don't launch it

I've heard of the 5S-FE tranny withstanding up to 400HP... but I believe it was rebuilt...

However, I believe that after some point in time... it will die out... I honestly don't think it was designed for high HP and torque specifications...

A brand new or rebuilt tranny could handle the power produced by the 3S... but I don't think it'll last as long as a tranny that was designed for turbo specifications...

Just my $0.02...

That sounds reasonable....if i go the swap route i wouldnt want to spend my money on a great engine and not have the tranny hold up to the engines potential. However i dont think that i would be doing any hard launching because i would prefer not to destroy my clutch or tranny anymore than i probably would otherwise with that engine.

our axles arn't worth ****, one time I was fooling around doing donuts in the snow, (I know=stupid) and both of my drive axles snapped.

so when the tow truck came and saw all the circles around the car, he was like "hmmm, this guys a dumbass"

so yeah, I was owned by weak ass drive axles
