GT-Fours are rare here, they're fairly common in Japan, Europe and...well basically the rest of the world.

They don't think twice about it. Plus, the rear half gets put to good use when somebody slams the rear end of a GT-Four and the body shop decides to chop it in half and weld on a new rear.

I've never heard/or seen someone going to the extreme of welding a new rear half on (or even a front for that matter)over here, you just go out and buy another & carry the parts over.

Why not just weld the car back together? insurance wont allow it?

i read somewhere that these cars would have been junked and crushed or parted out to sell to stimulate the japanese economy... idk how true that is but giving the front half to america is better than destroying it rite?

pipes on here bought a whole front clip and welded it onto his gt frame, its awd and rhd too, pretty sick if you ask me, and its eaiser to do that then to rip the engine out and re run the wire harness

Japan has strict laws about automobile taxes. Making it very expensive and illogical to own an older car. This is for emissions, and stimulus reasons. The short of it is that the older a car, the more you pay on taxes and registrations for it. Meaning in order to 'keep' an older car, you must either register it as an antique or show car. Registered as such, it can't be you main mode of transport. Meaning that most one car families will not be able to justify owning a older car.

Thus the car is sold for scrap, taken off the road and cut up so we Americans can buy them.

Thats what happened to my old SS-III, I saw it when it was half way completed I had a Green front half joined onto a white rear half. The boot and tail lights never lined up properly after that...


We can't import those cars anymore, I don't think many countries can. It would be best if Canada took them all while they still can, because when it opens up for us as a classic (Must be 25+ years old) they will all be sh*t heaps and no good ones left.
