those prices are wheel-tire combos.
The cheapest price for rims I have ever found are at www.treadepot.com in atlanta. www.wowautosprots.com also is really great price wise. |

You're right, the tyre width is in millimetres The tyre measurements are one of the most confusing out there - with inches, millimetres and a percentage. 215 = the tyre is 215 mm wide 17 = the wheel is 17 inches in diameter 45 = the side wall (profile) of the tyre is 45% of the width (215) - so in this case it's 96.75mm So a 45 profile on a 215 tyre (96.75mm) is lower than a 45 profile on a 235 tyre (105.75mm). -------------------- |

Hmm, long time no maths, so bear with me - I think this is right To get the overall diameter of the wheel the maths would be: (Profile x 2) + (wheel diameter * 25.4) = Overall Diameter in mm (divide by 25.4 for inches) (*wheel diameter is multiplied by 25.4 to change it from inches into mm*) For example if I had a 215 45 17: Width = 215 therefore 45% of 215 = 96.75, so: (96.75 *2) + (17 * 25.4) 193.5 + 431.8 = 625.3 mm Total Diameter 625.3 ÷ 25.4 = 24.618 inches Total Diameter -------------------- |

the math looks about right. but it would be a lot easier to use a tire size calculator http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html |
