I just got off the phone with my mechanic, and after eleven or so weeks of waiting, he finally tells me that he cannot finish my car, because the accelerator cable won't line up since the new AE101 4A-GE engine is out of a RHD car. Also, he said that my A/C and power steering won't work because they don't mount up, so he says he can't do finish car and that it's impossible to do. mad.gif

So I'm wondering what everyone with a JDM engine swap has done in order to get their accelerator cable to work. My mechanic said something about since the engine is from a right hand drive car, the accelerator cable is on the wrong side, or something like that. It's obvious now that he's incompetant, at least when it comes to working on Toyotas, and I'm furious. Over the weekend I'll probably get my car towed to a shop in Seattle to get the rest of the work done, because I've put up with enough crap with my mechanic.

I'm about an hour and a half away when I'm in Bellingham, and about two hours away when I'm in Yakima.

they buy some steel cable for about $10 and make one long enough.

its not hard at all.

dont pay him anything. take it to another shop that will make custom accessory mounts for the PS and AC

Aight coomer. Here's what i think.

1. If i were you, i would have kicked his ass a long time ago for taking so long. But that's just me.

2. There is no problem if the cable wont line up. I assume you mean that it wont screw up onto the firewall inside the car. The holes where the screws go are probably in a different angle or place on the clip. All he has to do is make new holes and screw it on. Now, I'm not sure if the cable is long enough. If you cable is long enough from where it comes out of the firewall to the throttle body, then it should'nt be a problem. But if it's too short, then you're gonna have to get one made. I dont think it cost that much, but i know that it can be made.

3. For the A/C, i believe he has to use the one that came with the 4A-GE engine and not the one from the AT200 engine. If he's using your old A/C, then that's where it's ****ing up. If he's using the A/C that came witht he clip, then theres no reason why it should'nt mount up.

4. Power stearing is the same thing. He should be using the power stearing from the 4A-GE engine. The only problem i would see there is that the return line might be too short because of the fact that the clip is RHD and your car is LHD. But that return line can be custom made.

I have never seen this swap done or have any knowledge about it, but i think that it might help a lil.

I just say you let me go over there, and we torch his place down. I'm crazy enough to do it .

Muahahaha

Coomer...you mechanic is not resourceful...don't pay him a penny...after 11 weeks, he had time to do research or fabricate something...don't loose hope, buddy, your problem has a solution...it's just the MECHANIC that can't find one. smile.gif

i would not pay the mechanic what he was asking just for the simple fact that it took 11 weeks and he still hasn't got you a running car.

I'll make sure that he doesn't get a dime of my money. I've got my parents and a lawyer to back me up if necessary, so on Monday I plan to talk to my mechanic, figure out exactly what is and isn't done, and then determine where to take my car to get the remainder of the work completed.

The trouble is finding a new mechanic, because the only other shop in town that deals with import engine swaps has blown up or destroyed a few engines on some cars from the area. So what I'll probably end up doing is having the car towed up to Seattle, which is two hours and approximately 150 miles away, because there are many reputable shops in the Seattle area that should be able to finish up my swap. I'm worried that I may not be able to afford what some good shops will charge though, and if that happens, I probably won't be driving my car until next summer. frown.gif

Coomer, you know you are so respected on these boards. I'm pretty sure that if we could, everyone on here would jump at the chance of kicking that guy's butt for you. biggrin.gif .

The news about your swap is horrible. I'm sorry your mechanic is inable to work on your Celica. If he didn't know exactly how to do it, he should have never agreed to take the job!

Didn't you say something a bit back about how he said he was going to "do your swap for free" if he didn't finish within a week or so. Well, I think that this is his way of getting you out of his hair because he knows he won't get paid for any of it. With his logic being, "Why keep working when I won't get paid anyways." So if he tells you something is "impossible", he figures you'll leave and go to another place. I'd take him to court and sue him. Hit me up if you want to talk about it.

That thought came across my mind as well, and I think it's probably pretty likely, as he claims to be so competant and some of the work I've seen him do is amazing. mad.gif

What really, really infuriated me today was that I went down to see my car, only to find that it's now got a nice area of red paint and scratches on the rear bumper from some car hitting mine! So tomorrow I'm going to talk to my mechanic, and he's going to pay to have my rear bumper repainted, or he will get sued. Also, he's going to need to help me get my car done somehow. I'm just so furious and angry right now, and if I knew that I'd have to go through this, I would never ever even think about doing an engine swap. It is a total nightmare, and I hate every bit of it. frown.gif

Its mostly based on the sick punative ideas of our world today smile.gif

I have never been into a physical fight though, generally I'm able to baffle them with my cunning linguist skills.

Thanks for the compliment - if thats what it was smile.gif
