i dont know if anyone else saw it but tonight on the show passtime on speed channel there was a tube chassis celica with a small block american motor in it and it ran a 10 second quarter mile. i was in my room and my roomate screamed my name to come downstairs and see it. I dont watch that show cause its allways american cars, and it wasnt really a 6gc cause it was rwd with usdm muscle motor behind it but it was a rather random sight to see. It even had a blower up through the hood. It is funny though that even with muscle car motor in it and tube chassis it cant touch the 3sgte head/2.2 block frankenstien drag celicas of the late 90's early 2000's. not to mention the supra chassied setups.

It isn't always american crap. I think I've only seen that show like 4 times but I did see one with a white 300Z that belongs to a member on this forum. Christina used to have a 96 ST show car with flames painted on it, she sold it and bought a white 300z, http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=56637&hl=

God I love how the American auto makers still can't even hit the 100HP Per Liter mark even in 2010 which which the Jappers have been doing since last Century.
Rather have a 6GC with 412HP than a Shipping Container with 412HP... -------------------- Mike W

God I love how the American auto makers still can't even hit the 100HP Per Liter mark even in 2010 YES. In the latest Car & Driver, they showcase the Best of the U.S. One of those things is the 2011 Mustang, and the return of the 5.0 Coyote engine. I had the same exact sentiment, why get excited over a huge mother of an engine if it can't even produce any astounding power? Another was the Buick Regal, which they say is basically a rebadged Opel Insignia. Then the third is the Ford Focus, which is the same Focus that Europe got...a few years ago. So really, the only good and American thing I see there is the CTS/CTS-V coupe, which I'm not really impressed with, but it's an honest and good effort. The last vehicle is the Oshkosh M-ATV, which just screams badassery, which I do quite like that, actually. However, it's a military vehicle. The NISMO 370Z is doing good to get 96 hp/l out of it's V-6. The more cylinders you ad, the harder it is to get your power / displacement. can you name 1 other Japanese car that can put out similar power in an NA V-8? oh, I found that a BMW M6 has a 5.0L V-10 that makes 514. But other than that, i havent found anything that is beating the 100 hp/l mark in something besides a, I-4 The bottom line is HP is HP. Edit: Sorry for the rant. I love my Celica, but I just hate baseless claims that all things American suck. This post has been edited by jimmykay: Feb 25, 2010 - 12:37 PM -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

I love my Celica, but I just hate baseless claims that all things American suck. I don't mean to burst your bubble but there are several larger displacement cars that are currently making 100hp/l including at least two American ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Shelby GT500 anyone? 5.4L 540 hp. The Vette ZR1 is another one, coming in with a 6.2L that makes 638. Only other Euro I can think of off the top of my head would be the Audi RS4 with a 4.2L making 420. All of these engines are V8's and not 10's but you get the point. I can agree with you that it takes American cars a much longer time to develop, but it's not like they don't exist. As far as a Japanese car with a NA V8... they don't make their cars on the basis of bigger is better so you won't see that. They are perfecting engines progressively from 4's to 6's now. They'll get to the 8's eventually. I'm sure in the next decade we'll see a Tundra with a 600hp V8 lol. This post has been edited by cardshark525: Mar 8, 2010 - 11:55 AM |

As for the Audi, (414hp 4.2L, its close enough) congrats, I was completely unaware of that engine. Even so, with only 10,000 produced, I think that my point stands that its much easier to get to that 100 hp/l mark on smaller engines, and with no price given on that Audi, it is assumed that it is also much cheaper. -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

I think a new RS4 is in the 80's. Still one of my favorite cars, even though it's supposedly a bit numb and business-like. I'd rock the hell out of one for a DD.
Anyway, we're way off topic now... -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

anyway, yes, I would say that a tube chassis celica with a smallblock chevy V-8 in it is still considered a celica, albeit a heavily modified celica. Sorry for taking this so far off topic.

I don't think anyone here has anything to be sorry about, I was pleasantly entertained and informed about stuff I had no idea about .
