Hi guys, I'm a long time 6GC reader, first time poster... I love the great community you guys got going on here, I've found it very helpful in the past.
Anyway to my question, the roof of my vert is in very bad condition and needs replacing. Ive been quoted $2800AUS to for a replacement and install, but one shop told me the cost can be significantly reduced if i source my own roof and pay for the labor only, which he quoted me to cost $950. I've seen some roofs on the american ebay, I was wondering if they are all the same (USDM and JDM) or will they not fit? My car is a ST202 GT vert if this helps anyone. |

I believe they are all the same, but I'm not 100% on that.
I did the roof on my old 'vert myself. Took the entire weekend with the help of my dad, and was definitely a pain the butt. Bought the replacement top and defroster glass rear window for $400 US, and otherwise it was just a can of contact cement and some staples. It's not an impossible job, but a local upholstery shop quoted around $300 for labor and it would have been well worth it to save us the stress of doing it. I'll see if I can find the site I ordered our top and such off of, was at least 3 years ago so I don't remember off the top of my head. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

I think this is who we ordered through. Price has gone up a little, but still not bad. The "A Package Deal" is what we used, canvas top, defroster rear window, new cables, install instructions, and all that.

First things first, welcome to the site, officially.
As for the USDM and JDM verts being the same.. I am not 100% positive but I am about 90% sure that the verts were all finished in California. Maybe that was just USDM verts, but it really seems like I read that coupes were shipped to a plant in California to be modified to be a vert. So maybe, just maybe, that plant did all the verts. I haven't read anywhere that the rest of the world got different verts, so it's possible. It's worth looking into. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
