Ok guys, I finally gave up on the idea of trying to figure out how the hell the 8 pin switch is supposed to work.

I managed to get a preface lift celica 4 pin rear fog switch from a member on CCUK.

Brown - ground/earth
Yellow - 12v source
Red - rear fog relay

4 pins:
1. Ground
2. 12v
3. Relay
4. illumination + (wired to my driving lights loom)

Fitted

All works as it would from leaving the factory.

The trouble with the 8 pin switch is that its more complicated than the 4 pin one, in regards that the 4 pin is a simple latching type of switch. Where as the 8 pin seems to need a coil/relay for the switch to actually work.

The 4 pin switch works in the same way as the hazard lights switch.

I have changed the green bulb in the switch for a red one.

hmm... that just gave me an idea. has anyone tried using the hazard switch to control the fogs and swapped out the actual button for the fog button?

Unfortunaly I have already sold my 8 pin fog switch to a guy on here a few months ago. I have no idea why Toyota made to switches. Maybe because the 4 pin switch will stay "on" for as long as you have it pushed on, where as the facelift switch will turn off when you turn the head lights off or ignition off.
