I'm gonna go ahead and sell the blue Celica if somebody wants it. $250 as is with no motor or spend a little more and get more stuff with the shell (motor, headlights, new axles, etc.) It's a good rolling shell or parts car for somebody. I just never do anything with the car, so I might as well sell it and get one that runs and call it a day. I can drive the BEAMS fairly well any time I want, and the IS is comfortable enough. I just find it hard to work on the car when I don't make any headway.

Did some work to the BEAMS today. Replaced the old, shady intake with a SARD intake. Spendy, but worth it to get rid of the other intake. Cleaned the throttle body while I was at it, then replaced the thermostat and got fixed the battery relocation. I had 4 gauge wire this morning and now I have 1/0 gauge. HUGE difference. If you're planning on relocating your battery and you think 4 gauge wire will cut it... Think again. It starts your car, yes, but the 1/0 gauge is like the battery never even moved. The 4 gauge lets it crank over for a little bit before it fires.

See why I needed a new thermostat? rolleyes.gif

I used the thermostat from a 2003-2006 4Runner V8. You can also use the thermostat from a '98-07 Land Cruiser, '00-06 4.7 liter Tundra, and '01-07 4.7 liter Sequoia.

The new SARD intake. I browsed over a post on the BEAMS Owners Group that says the SARD is the only intake proven to make more power than the factory intake with the Redtop. Until I see proof, I'd rather have a factory intake. In the meantime, I've got a good intake on the car.

$315. But I had $25 in my Paypal account, so really only $295. Same $295 as RHDJapan, except this one was already in the US so I didn't have to wait for it as long. This thing still bogs like a mother though. Time to start coughing up the cash and start buying brand new sensors from Toyota. First up, $180 MAF...

Excuse the crappy iPhone/steering with one hand and trying to take a video with the other quality. The first video shows the car revving just fine at full throttle in 4th gear, then bogging at 3,000 rpm. Then I downshift to 3rd gear to raise the rpm's and it runs just fine. Note that I wasn't feathering the throttle- that's just how it runs when it starts bogging. After that, I went to turn around, and the car bogged down at idle so I popped the hood and show how even if you don't give it gas hard, it'll still bog down but if you're easy with the gas, it'll still rev.

I loathe Photobucket videos but Youtube takes too long to upload my videos. I should also add that this is with the new SARD intake. It used to rev slightly quicker with the other intake but I'd rather have a good intake on the car.

In order to avoid breaking forum rules, I won't mention the speed I hit while driving on a closed course. I will say that I've wrapped third gear out. I've never broken 100 though. That's how this car loves to be driven. It only bogs when you're going slow.

I know it's running crazy rich. I don't have access to a wideband but you can smell it running rich. One morning when the girlfriend started the car, it was blowing a decent amount of smoke out. I know it isn't burning oil so it had to be running rich. I bought this MAF for $44 from Fleabay. The guy had three of them. My guess, he gets broken ones and tries to fix them. Seemed like a good deal at the time though. Replace that next, then the O2 sensor.

Yeah, but unlikely.... The BEAMS is finnicky enough. We've got a nissan maxima that had to have a new maf because my step dad didn't let the K&N filter dry out enough with that oil before installing. 10 days later the engine light came on with a bad maf that prolly got some of that oil sucked up the intake on it.... tried to clean it, fail.... tried cheap aftermarket, fail..... ultimately had to buy the $160 OEM part from the dealer to fix it. assuming this is similar, its just one of those things that you're just going to throw money at until you do it right

No need anymore, ordered a brand new MAF last night. MAF cleaner didn't make any difference so I know this thing is clean, so either the MAF isn't my problem or else it isn't working right.

This is exactly where I'm at right now. I'm only going to throw so much money at this motor before buying a new BEAMS altogether though. And you make a very good point. You don't ever use an oiled air filter with the BEAMS. It sucks the oil straight into the MAF and ruins it.

Thanks Bonzai. I'm actually racing you to see which one of us gets our BEAMS 100% perfect first. Lol. Yeah, when you're driving behind my BEAMS, you can definitely smell it running rich. Sometimes if you're sitting in place with the car idling, you can smell it inside the car. And I've only seen it one time, but one morning when the girlfriend started the car, it was running so rich that you could see it smoking. So my problem more than likely lies in why it's running so rich. The problem is figuring out why it's running so rich. I wanted to dispose of that last intake in case those nipples were causing the MAF to get bad readings. It still bogs so now I'm looking most heavily at a faulty MAF and the O2 sensor since I bought the MAF used and the O2 sensor came in my B pipe. I don't know the true condition of either sensor, and those two play a huge role in determining how the car runs. So after I replace those, if the car still bogs, I'm going to start looking at buying a new BEAMS that I know runs well.

I replaced the Facebook videos with Photobucket videos. I hate Photobucket videos but at least they're public and you don't have to have a Facebook and log in to see them.

Eh, while I'm posting videos, here's an early video of the BEAMS. This is with the old intake, so you can hear the difference in this video compared to the other two videos I posted earlier. The SARD intake is quieter than this one. I was already rolling at the start of this video, and shifting pretty easily since it's a new clutch. Keep in mind that I kept the GT's 2" exhaust, where the BEAMS got 2.25", so I know I'm holding this motor back. It's capable of more but as it is, it works perfectly for us. It's quieter than the 5S on the highway and quicker all around. Sorry for the crappy quality, it's difficult to drive and get a video with your phone at the same time.

naw dude I believe my motor is at 100%. I'll have to get on a dyno soon and only if I hit 169 whp, then it'll be at 100%. I need to make myself a cold air box. Sucking hot air from the engine bay isn't the greatest.

Sticking stock fuel pump on very soon.

Hope that new maf and/or oxygen sensor is the cause to your problem biggrin.gif

The engine you got is from a Rav4 correct? and not a MR2. Something like this... Like this?
Would the swap be the same for a '94 GT? And that Celica sounds BADA$$!!

love the fact how you kept the stock rpm gauge. Revving into the redline must be pretty cool. You plan on switching to an beams gauge anytime later on?

I'd be keen to hear whether or not the Sard intake adds much power.

If it does, that plus a Rusty-style cold air box will be next on the list for my Beams.
