I have the Speed Source ones too. The shift are a bit more choppy and mechanical but alot more precise

I have heard other alternatives that worked as well.

I almost bought a set of brass bushings from eBay, then I noticed people saying that they caused shift cable failure due to the lack of flexibility. Then when I went to swap, I was glad I didn't buy them because my shift cable bushings are two different sizes. I've noticed some members around here say they have the brass bushings, but all the kits I've seen (SW20, ST204, ZZ30) sell two bushings the same size. Did later model Celicas have different shift cables than earlier years? I'll check ToyoDIY in a little while. In the meantime, if I could find a replacement for my other bushing (OEM or not) I'd go ahead and replace it. May go ahead and replace the cables soon, who knows.

Apparently so, my shift cables are both of the same size. When I ordered my bushings they came in staggered sizes. I had to return one and got one of the same size as the other one. One was the size of a quarter and the other was the size of a dollar coin almost. I had to use two of the smaller ones.

I might try roller bearings. I've never heard of any shifter cables broken due to brass bushings but the theory behind the roller bearings allowing the cable some slop is a good one.

That sounds like the set I need. I just checked and compared part numbers from a '94 Celica to my '98, both use the same shift cables. It's possible the previous owner swapped them out for an aftermarket set or something. Where did you get your set from?

RACEKOR!!

No, kurt95gt and BlueCelicaWife came down from Ohio to help pull the motor. Dustin and Stef suspect my steering rack is the cause of my weird torque steer issue so I picked up a new steering rack, inner tie rod ends to go with the outers I bought last year and never installed, passenger side motor mount, poly motor mount inserts, and plenty of engine degreaser for the engine bay. Turns out the rack we got, although the dimensions are the same, is not for a Celica. So now the engine is out, the bay is clean, and we're at a standstill. We considered replacing the tie rod ends and putting the rack back in and putting the motor back in but we didn't go through all this work to give up and put the same rack back in. So I guess we're shut down, I'll have to buy another rack Tuesday and get back into the car next weekend.

I gotta say, I'm finding it hard to concentrate on the Celica lately. Those in the know know I've got my sights set on a different car. smile.gif

Please use anti-seize on outer tie rods & jamb nuts. I align to many cars with parts rusted together.

Absolutely not. Nothing against them or anyone who has one but those just aren't the car for me.

We didn't get a lot done this weekend. Pulled the motor out just to find out I was given the wrong steering rack, but I at least got the new passenger motor mount and poly rear mount insert in. Picking up a different rack Tuesday. So, pictures of the lack of progress!

The top rack is the replacement rack. Bottom rack is the Celica rack. Similar, but totally different.
