Not getting power to CD player? Help wanted!! Options

Ok... so I was installing an aftermarket cd player today and it flashed on then turned off and now the factory player (without wiring harness) wont even work. I tested the aftermarket cd player on an independant power source and it works. I tested the ground and thats good. I can only assume the issue lyes with the power. I believe the power source comes through the factory amp but could I have fried the amp? I commute 30 minutes to work everyday... it would suck with out music! Any help would be apperciated!

don't mean anything. 1999= 11year old fuse man....

we were having that prob here in Houston, and we all swapped out new fuses, you'd be surprised the results.

but i may be wrong. hell, double check that wiring.

color code/wiring order? list it...

I'll have to try replacing the fuses... Question what does the fuse under the dash labeled ST mean?

Check the dome light fuse... It puts power to the radio in most Toyotas

i fried my amp when i was installing my stereo... so a fried amp is possible.

So this morning I got in my car and the factory stereo worked but I stopped at a gas station and came back to my car after getting coffee and the stereo was on but there was no volume????

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas????

sounds like a blown amp in either the car or the radio, if anything it was not grounded right and fried itself, happened on the first radio i installed

Get a multimeter and test your lines. Doesnt matter if the stock amp is fried. You dont need it if you have a aftermarket headunit. A good way to tell that a amp fried is the smell. smells like burnt metal. Good luck. You'll get it figured out.

You should bypass the factory amp when installing an aftermarket head unit.

Factory head units are typically 50w, and the amp just blasts power to the speakers - amplifies the sound.

Most aftermarket headunits are 200w, and a factory amp will blow it's fuse/fry itself due to too much power being put through. You've probably either fried the factory amp or blown your cig&rad fuse (fuse panel inside), dome fuse (engine bay) or one of the radio fuses in your engine bay.

I'll have to check the Dome fuse... I replaced the fuse on the back of the deck with a new fuse and it lights up but still no sound?

Check your radio fuses in your engine bay and your dome light fuse as you said. For whatever reason, Toyota thinks it's cool to provide power to the radio via the dome light fuse.

Also, if you haven't checked and replaced the cig&rad fuse in your fuse panel, do that. If it doesn't look shiny or looks any sort of burnt inside, it's bad. Any dark spot on the fuse means it's burnt, not just if the entire thing is black.

dont mean to be captain obvious but did you check the your battery. same thing happened to my car and my dads truck, the hu would cut out and play tricks on me like that, turned out to be the battery not sending constant power. does the car have to crank a couple times before it starts?

So I decided to hard wire all the audio! It took a little over 4 hours to rewire the front and rear speakers but its done right and well!!! I used high quality car audio speaker wire and ran the constant and ground from the deck directly to the battery. I couldn't have figured it out so quickly without the help from everyone!!! Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas!
