i think i remember someone saying you can boost 10psi with an intercooler safely. without an intercooler i would think you wouldn't want to push more than 6psi.

Safety depends on engine mileage, fuel quality, temperature, tuning, driving habits, and boost & fuel control.
If you have very high mileage and also look after your car like a baby engine wise, 6-8psi with a small intercooler would work. Advice, if you want to boost, I would recommend getting a compression test, a good tuning and then move on to turbo. Upgrade your Injectors and get a nice fuel and boost controller(s). If money allow, a nice intercooler to cool that charge down will help. you might also have to look at the fuel quality and also an ignition unit to have high revs where you might want to retard the timing a bit. Once these things are taken into consideration, including engine cooling with an extra vent or extra radiator fan from SPAL, all should be right up to 12psi(but not to live there). But to run at high boost, alot of consideration have to be lot @ the engine temperature, once the above it met. Try to keep the engine and the charge air cool as possible since the head or the pistons have not been built for boost. Also, I thing these engines do not carry piston oil coolers. So reduce heat here is critical for long engine life This post has been edited by west_minist: Nov 9, 2003 - 5:40 PM -------------------- West_Minist

Thanks
Advice, it want to have fun and have another engine onside, break the engine @ the track, pull it down and advice all on what to do if you want to boost @ 12psi cheaply. |

Thanks for the replies,
I have 106,000 miles on my engine and is still in really good shape. I am doing the Ct26 turbo kit for my 5sfe. I bought a Hks Safr and ignition as well as a fuel pressure regulator,Supra N/A injectors, a good boost controller, and a huge Spearco intercooler. I was not sure what boost I can handle with. I thought that if I tuned the engine at 8 PSI I would be alright. |

Wellllllllll someone's made of money!
S-AFC and Boost controller is just about 1000, unless its mechanical controller. Also, too big of an IC is bad, remember you have a 4cyl, not a 6. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Nov 10, 2003 - 12:31 AM -------------------- |

Nice. 8psi would be good. Just be wary of some of the complications.

really do not know. I problem is that if the results are going to be a 3sge, get a 3sge short block or the hold engine and go from there.

not a good idea with the stock 5sfe cams. i think they are made to peak the power at just under 6krpm 220 at the wheels is possible, with a great amount of tuning, complete fuel system upgrade and a good fmic the internals should hold, provided you do the tuning right -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

well if you are gonna change the cams than it wouldnt hurt to have a 1k higher redline(with the new springs, guides and seals might be good as well) and now that i think of it, i doubt the 3sgte valve springs will work, the heads are way too different but, if you are going the route of the 3sgte manifold and turbo, the ct26 wont do any good after the stock GT redline. btw what is the rev limiter on a GT? -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition
