Saw 3 Celicas, none of the regular Mid West ppl. A black one, a white GT, & a faded red.
Sorry I am not able to tell years by sight. Just odd to see 3 in 1 day, blocks apart, in this area
without a Meet. I admit, I did ogle for a time. wink.gif

soooo I'm guessing the stock gt trans has a problem with 3rd gear?

Oops
Re-phrase the block thing ....

.... within a few blocks of each other ....

Not that the motor(s) or transmission(s) were apart.

To answer Holt, the GT and ST are slightly notorious for having a grind when downshifting into third. Sometimes gear oil change or using Synchromesh alleviates it, just depends on how far gone the synchronizer is.

I haven't noticed that problem with my car yet actually. Only problem is downshifting into 1st when I'm going any faster than 1 MPH tongue.gif

Yeah mine grinds into 3rd on cold mornings, or when you are TOO hard on it. When I get the S54 with LSD my plan is to replace the synchros before it ever gets near the car tongue.gif

I am buying a SSIII in Japan that has the LSD already with it. And if I wasn't I would rebuild my S54 with a Cusco 1.5 way LSD, not E153.

So I picked up a Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit today, not for me; it's a present for my project,.

This should give everyone an idea of what I'm thinking,. but basically since it has a swappable watch band that you can snap off, you can also 3dprint a base that would snap in to the Celica Center Trim Piece to replace the old trusty green clock with a bright beautiful smart watch.

This way, if I'm getting a phone call, I can swipe the clock to have it piped through my stereo, notifications for facebook, gmail etc scroll on it and you can make hands free calls. Of course you have to have a phone it syncs with but I do., so get in the car, and the car is directly linked.

I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

how you planning on charging the gear or are you planning on taking it out to charge it?

I'm just integrating the charging cradle into the new mount. Since there is the outlet for the clock that is switched with the key I'll just splice a USB adapter on to the factory plug.

The s54 isn't made to be able to shift That fast, like some of the better trannys that have dual synchronizer mechanisms. You need to push it into the opening of the gear and then give it 0.5 seconds or so to synch the gears up and let it slide in. If you force it by slamming it into gear faster that wears out that synchronizer. Contrary to popular belief you don't want to downshift into third with a Bruce Lee karate chop action.
The new s54 I just picked up is in real good shape, only 135k miles and the person driving it was real easy on that transmission so the synchros make absolutely No crunchy noises whatsoever.
Other than that running straight synchromesh oil helped mine shift a lot easier when cold especially back into 1st. I'm going to get some Redline MT this time and see how well it works.

Today I put the Celica's battery on charge and started getting it ready to go back into DD duty until I get rid of my poopy Nissan. Might have a few dents but still drives just fine!

I miss winter driving in Ontario. I never had the GT-Four there, but I loved hooning my parent's Tercel & Oldsmobile back in the day.
