Has anyone here done the c160 swap for their stock transmission on the 7A? If so, does it really just bolt up?

they aren't easy to find, and if you were to find one it would probably cost a lot

You can get a blacktop 4AGE with a 6-speed on ebay for $1800. Im thinking about throwing a blacktop head on my 7A block with the 6-speed transmission... Its still in the contemplative stages, but its an idea.

Surprisingly, they are able to produce a good amount of power.
Im not looking to do anything crazy. Id be amazed if i ended up with 225 hp after all was said and done, but since ive got a USDM ST, i dont need an AWD transmission and it would be easier to source parts locally.

nik,

I didnt even read most of it and it looks like a pain in the ass... Was it really that bad? Ive heard that you can run the blacktop head on a 7a short block as long as youve got fuel/engine management and it runs reliably?
Im not looking to soil anyones shorts with horsepower or torque. I really would just like to have a small forced induction setup and get rid of this fe head... If it isnt worth doing, ive got a guy who wants to sell an all-trac. Ill prob just buy that and forget about messing with my 7a...

It would actually be about the same... 4.5 final drive... plus the 6th gear being only marginally taller than the c56's 5th gear... the savings is in the neighborhood of 100-200 rpms at the same speed. frown.gif

6 speed is a performance mod
