QUOTE
Gen 3
The third generation 3S-GE was produced from 1994 to 1999. Power output was increased to 177 bhp (132 kW, 180 PS) over the gen 2, while torque figures stayed the same. Non JDM 3S-GE motors received a minor revision in 1996 for emissions (EGR) which reduced power output to 173 bhp (125 kW, 170 PS) @ 7000 rpm.

Does anybody know more details about this and might wanna share? Especially Celi owners from UK. Thanks

i would like to know about the if EGR system in the 3sge is the same as the one in the USDM spec 5sfe.

the reason is if this 3sge has an egr system, would this pass the emmissons ref for visual inspection in a 3sge engine swap in cali? thanks for the pics.

is your engine bay one of those two pics?

do you have a picture of the 5S-FE EGR system setup??

behind the intake manifold.

So if i get a 3sge from ebay which I believe dont come with the EGR system, then I get all the necessary parts for the EGR system like the pics in your 1st post, IDK if this is a dumb question but does the 3sge needs to be fabricated to install the EGR system?

your post above shows redX. if you got time, screen shot please. thanks

my 3sge head looks as though there is an indent/ or a blank where the EGR would be. My guess is that they recieved extra porting for it to work (since I'd doubt toyota would make a new head for just the european market more cost effient for them to redo the intake manifold)
IMO best bet would be to find the EGR model (from a LHD ST202) and install that

yup mine (and other ST202 with 3S-GE from JAPAN) never had EGR

how are those pics sorry? they look a bit crappy will fix them up a bit more if you want??

So Euro market has this EGR revision.

Does it need to be from a LHD ST202?

Pics are fine. I really appreciate it. I will try to find a this 3s that is for sale. All the ones on ebay are from japan. I will check on the Euro sites.

We need detailed pics of the head of a non-EGR vs EGR.

If you're looking to do a legal swap... the 3rd gen 3SGE is NOT legal in CA regardless of EGR or any type of emission equipment. Why? The engine was never available in the United States...

1/3MZFE can be legal... 2ZZGE can be legal, I've seen a USDM MR2 turbo swap into a 95 Celica GT BAR'd and legal... but that's highly dependent on who is your BAR ref.

st182 - didnt search about it but im pretty sure is not available here. st184 is and is powered by 5sfe

also cali engine change says that the engine must be of the same year or newer
