i highly suggest getting a wideband O2 sensor and watch the airfuels while squeezing. you can get away with a dry kit because the 5S has a return system, however the MAP sensor is going to go nuts because of the pressure you are inducing.

my car has 76,xxx miles on it, but they were really hard miles and I didn't take the precautions mentioned above, at very least I would do the colder plugs and retard the timing some. i might lower the shot because i still want it too be peppy without it.. zex says i don't need to retard it for a 55 shot so i might just go with that how much difference did the nitrous make when you ran the 50 shot?? like will i loose a second with it you think? i highly suggest getting a wideband O2 sensor and watch the airfuels while squeezing. you can get away with a dry kit because the 5S has a return system, however the MAP sensor is going to go nuts because of the pressure you are inducing. i have a fuel pressure gauge and exhaust temp that im going too pay wayyyy close attention too hopefully that will be enough This post has been edited by terbear4god4life: May 19, 2010 - 12:34 AM -------------------- |

how much difference did the nitrous make when you ran the 50 shot?? like will i loose a second with it you think? well if you mean on 1/4 mile, a 50-shot I think will only get you a max of ~.5 sec, someone correct me if I am wrong? Also is your ZEX kit the one that has a vacuum line that connects to your FPR? if so that one is way better because it ups the pressure and richens it up a little. -------------------- If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. first off.... WHERE'D YOU GET THAT KEYCHAIN??????? secondly.... I had nitrous before on my celica, 50 shot, rans strong all day, 75 shot, before bottle was empty i had spun a rod bearing BUT, I think it was my own fault, I didn't know enough about nitrous back then, and hope you can learn from my mistakes. 1st wet it better(adds in its own fuel and is safer) 2nd MAKE SURE TO RETARD TIMING!!!!! if I were you I would buy a mallory 6A that has window switch and timing retard, AS WELL AS MORE SPARK(about $200) 3rd go get you a set of 1 step colder NGK plugs like BKR7ES-1 should work fine for your 5S good advice. i always hear that wet nitrous is better than dry. colder plugs are a good idea too. -------------------- |

QUOTE i have a fuel pressure gauge and exhaust temp that im going too pay wayyyy close attention too hopefully that will be enough This is pretty much why people blow their motors. They skimp out on things like a wide band, and then wonder why their motor blow. Same thing used to happen in the 5sfTe community years ago. Everyone one would install the turbo but never bothered to monitor their air to fuel ratio, and then wondered why the 5sfes would blow up after a month of boosting. Get a wideband. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Get a wideband. im pretty limited by funds.. i mean sure i could do it right get a wideband get a air/fuel controller and than go get a tune for the nitrous.. from what iv seen people have had the most luck with a 55 shot so im attempting to find the jets.. i believe in my handy work and i can tell if im pretty much running lean or rich with the gauge..personally in my own sense if the fuel pressure drops im backing off the nitrous really quickly! if you have limited funds, wouldn't it be wiser to wait til you can afford a wideband before blowing your motor and having to wait for funds to buy another motor when that happens? your handy work isn't going to save your motor. get colder plugs, tune it, do it right. that's a lot of mileage.. good luck either way.

well im hoping too just shed light on all the doubt..
if a stock 5s unopened can handle boost at 250+hp it should be fine with a lil 55 shot...well see tho! This post has been edited by terbear4god4life: May 20, 2010 - 4:08 PM -------------------- |

your gonna blow your motor homes...
if you cant afford a $175 wideband, your not going to be able to afford a new motor/car/other mode of transportation after it does blow. listen to the advice that these guys and i am giving you...i know your anxious, and you just want to jump right in and start spraying...but if you wait that extra week to get the money up, and buy the parts you REALLY need, it will be the difference between spraying for a weekend and spraying for a few months. in my oppinion the 5s can handle a 150 shot unopened, but thats with all the supporting mods, such as a wideband, an SAFC, FPR, colder plugs, timeing retard, oil pressure gauge, and a nitrous gauge. If i were you i would have bought all of that FIRST, then buy the bottle, that way your not going backwards. i wish you all the luck man, and if you can get away with a 55 shot untill you get a wideband then thats great...but your motor wont like it at all, espically with almost 250k -------------------- I"M NOT A TOYOTA FAN, IM A FANATIC 1984 accord hatch 5 speed (T-Belt)-Junkyard 1991 VDUB jetta wolfsburg Ed. 5 speed (clutch)-junkyard 1988 Dodge Aries K (sold) 1969 Chevy El camino - Traded for celica 1991 Dodge Daytona-Traded for Celica 1988 Chevy Camaro-Work in Progress 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 - For Sale 1995 Toyota Celica-Work in Progress |

QUOTE im not that concerned i have a nitro/methane mix i will mix in with a full tank before i use.. IMO thats a VERY bad idea. nitro/methane is basicly adding more O2 to the mix, which is also what nitrous does. you need to be adding more fuel to the mix, not more O2. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

my 5s has 240,000 miles but still runs absolutely perfect i have no idea of past events or anything internal done to the block other than it has a new timing belt so i like to think the previous owner had replaced the head-gasket too. i know a bunch of you think this is a bad idea but i don't have the resources or time or money too rebuild or too swap or boost like a lot of individuals on here. So what I am getting from this and your other posts in this thread is you wish to provide us with no actual data? Just a "hey I blew my motor, no I have no clue why, I don't know what my AFRs were, no I didn't track data" So the whole point of this really isn't the point. The point I am seeing is that you want an easy go fast car without any extra hopmework or effort, yet you admit you have no budget and still are willing to blow your motor for no actual point. Well good luck. I am hopeful for your motor and car. I have done the same thing you are doing but with the turbo about 8 years ago. I did it on my daily driver with no budget for all the proper stuff. The motor went pop. Please head the warnings of others. -Terracar -------------------- '92 ST185, '88 ST165, '05 Galant LS, '08 Legacy

Its been almost a month since he said "Next week"... so I'm really hoping his engine didn't blow up on him... that would be a tragedy.
