go with a different amp ......... sony makes great stuff but the speakers and amps are not that great..... alpine or kenwood MTX JBL they make some good amps......

I personaly have two kenwood amps 600 watts each both mono bridged ...one amp for each 12" MTX 6000 sub ....It hits like a son of a *****

Personally, I'd go with a completely different setup. Those Alpine subs can only handle 200 watts RMS per sub, and they're not very high quality subs. Their XMax is also pretty low, at 11.7mm. Also, Sony's Xplod line of car audio products simply is not very high quality.

And one more thing. If the amp you're talking about from Sony is the XM-2165GTX, then it puts out 400x1 watts RMS @ 4 ohms, which would be fine, except the impedance is wrong for the setup you described, because those subwoofers are SVC 4 ohm, so if you wired them to get a 8-ohm load, your subs wouldn't be getting much power, and if you wired them to get a 2-ohm load, you'd probably destroy that amp very quickly. If your friend who works there suggested that, I would be VERY skeptical of anything he tells you about car audio.

You could get an Adire Shiva 12" sub for $125 new or an Elemental Designs e12K 12" sub for $135 new and a new JBL 600.1 for $175 shipped, and then build a box yourself, and you would have a much, much better sounding system for less money. smile.gif

Soon as I get my celi back i'll be puttin in dual 12" Infinity Perfects in there w/ a Rockford Fosgate Punch 800 a2. Just been refurbished by Fosgate... Hopefully I'll be making a fiberglass trunk for it all sometime as well. For my reg. speakers i have 6.5" Rockford Fosgate (model? iono)... and thats powered by a bolt 50 X 4 RMS amp. I know that last amp is crummy, but it works for what i need out of it... Actually i may be selling my old amp, its an American Acoustics, i forgot it's stats i'll look em up next time i'm home if ur intersted, i'm pretty sure its up in the 300 watt rms range... (Tho not positive...)

Has anyone actually made a Fiberglass enclosure in the celi? I'd love to see it if they have...

I've seen it done, but I can't remember where I saw it. Also, I'm currently making a fiberglass enclosure for my Audi, and over Christmas break, I plan to make a fiberglass enclosure for my Celica. smile.gif

Also, how much are you paying for those Perfects?

I allready had one originally... Hit pretty nice...

I got the amp (Rockford Fosgate one) for 20 bucks, and repaird for like 200, which is still a really good deal cuz its like a 500 dollar amp new, and it's been completely refurbished so (like new)...

The sub i payed 50 for... Good condtion, longtime friend, so i know what it's been through... Overall a pretty good deal. (Besides i oweed him $$$ ) hehe, and now we're even......

i hab 2 type e's. dun really like them, but my friend bought them for me so im not complaining. however, i have them powered with a fosgate amp. i forgot the model but 1200 watts. btw my type e's hab 600 peak output, but then again that's not constant power. anyways the system sounds good. not the best but loud enough. the rest of the system is powered wif a 700 watts crunch amp.

i've previously had a kicker and a rockford punch. i liked both, but i was very satisfied wif my punch.

ps. lookin to make a fiberglass enclosure too.
