I was on the motorway yesterday, had a little blast at WOT. after a couple of minute my oil light came on, so i pulled over and shut it off. looked under the car and my sump plug was missing :S and it was pissing oil onto the road. i had a spare in my glovebox (don't ask why) so i put it in, crawled to the services only half a mile thankfully, as soon as i restarted the engine is was making a knocking noise *stomach sinks*. i put some oil in and got on with the journey. it was fine at first but the knocking noise has come back, i checked the plug and the oil level and they're all fine.

the noise is weird, its not like a bad rod where it gets louder with rpm, its loudest at idle and disappears above 3k. the engine sounds a little whineyer than usual. im very confused.

can anyone help?

if you ahve knocking, the bearing has spun. even if its not making noise now, there is damage in there. I would seriously consider tearing into the engine and finding out for sure.
