I was just skimming through YouTube one day and I came across this video for a drifting 240 and this protruding thingamabob caught my eye...

Then later that day I was out driving and saw an Integra with the same thing except sticking out the rear of the car, just below the rear bumper cover...

Who know's what this thing is...? I have my assumptions, but I'd like to be sure:

Looks like a tow hook to me.

Never seen one popping out of the hood like that though (doesn't make sense imo).

I'm going with his assumption and calling a tow hook that someone thought was cool to put on the hood.

My assumption was that its a release for the hood - or in the case of the integra; for the hatch...

I dunno though, can anyone verify?

6gc is like the sheltered child of the car community...

Yes they're tow hooks. People mount them to their strut towers because it is a strong mounting point to be towed from.

Are the ones pictured for looks? Of course.
Is the function there? Definitely.

Now go back to your parents' basement 6gc and return to that sheltered life. tongue.gif

Its not even that man. I just feel like you came in this thread and answered a question that was already answered and tried making it look like you "know it all" and everyone else doesn't.

I answered why it is sticking out of the hood, and why it is functional. Sorry that upsets you.

yeah tow hook/eye, not just cos the strut is a solid mount but because the ones fitted to the car from the factory often get covered by big body kits and having that "drift" type mounted low is dangerous as it sticks out far so is not pedestrian friendly or reverse friendly when parking, every car has a factory one or a screw in type, you can see my small factory one on the left under the rear bumper painted silver but my fronts are covered by the lower front of the TRD bumper so if i ever get towed i'll probably have to fix the bumper it will almost defo get cracked

functionality - its easier to slip a tow hook on that area and drag it out instead of grabbing a shovel and trying to dig a small hole to find a tow hook on the rear or front of the car.

ever been to the track or the canyons and get stuck in really really deep sand that swallows your car and wont let you move? would you rather dig and find a tow hook underneath the car or hook up to the top and drag it out and disappear before the cops show up.

is it useful sure.

is it needed not really.

would you spend 120+ on one ... i would'nt.

Totally, then you should paint "drifter boy" on the side. It makes you more legit biggrin.gif

Useful Information
Unneeded Information (that is rather offensive)

I'm not going to argue. This post was uncalled for. You answered a thread with the direct facts and that is most definitely the end answer to this thread. Credit due- Given.

Talking sh!t when you answered a post at 1.45pm (while most people that can afford to do/ and know of & about such mods, are busy at the jobs they receive the money to afford said mods) While you were belittling a community that I, (and all but 1 member of it) is Proud to call their own,
I was being distracted by work. If you must know, at 1.45 i was between a Concrete saw to remove slab to jackhammer up, to lay a post to weld a fence to that would be the backbone to an automated entry gate system. Not playing on the computer. Not trying to say i'm the most BAMF here, cause i'm not. But that's called an honest hard days work to achieve/receive the things you want.

Should i have been here i could have answered this question as well. Infact, There are atleast 30 people off the top of my head that could have, if they weren't busy being adults.

END POINT: Do not belittle 6gc.net. Do not attempt to lower it's moral. Because if it wasn't for the people here, Most of us wouldn't have as much as we do have. Nor the friends, Nor the connections. 6gc.net is a fantastic network of everything from new learners to hardcore tuners. We share our Parts, Knowledge, and Pride.

And for you to say that, is a slap in all of our faces. Including Coomer. The yellicelli started this all. Go look at your own profile.

If you feel this way, then please, GTFO

Timing man. some of us check in after work.

And just outta ciriousity, why'd anyone wanna show off a tow hook? WHY brag about having to be towed? I drive a car who's engine blew and it STILL got me home. AND THEN, made it to the swapp location. (went "full out no-runny" within 5 ft of the park/working area) Fcuking epic!

if its a drift/race car then they go off quite often into the gravel track and once in there due to how low the car is they can't get out under their own power, if its on a street car its a total penis extension nothing more

when you say your GTI doesn't have any tow eye/hook is this an American thing not to have them cos in Europe/UK we have them even if they are in the boot and you have to remove a cap from the bumper and you screw it in, only really old cars tend not have any sort of tow eye/hook
