Recently as I've been driving I've noticed my celica runs sort of hot, the temp gauge stays within the normal readings but after putting the pedal to the floor or driving around for a while i notice it just seems hotter and has a distinct smell to it. At first i thought it was burning oil but the oil is just fine. I switched to full synthetic about 6 months back and also I'm running iridium spark plugs. I was wondering if maybe the spark plugs are too hot for the car? Or maybe it's the new oil? I run valvoline synpower btw . Anyone have any ideas why it may be doing this? Also the Fan does come on. I'm just confused as to whether this is normal or not.

Have you checked your radiator recently to see if it isn't clogged up. Also a partially sticking thermostat might be the cause. Unless your oil pressure is low I doubt the switch to synthetic would cause overheating. Older cars often have simultaneous issues cropping up at the same time, gotta love it.
