Hi Guys,

i am just wondering what would be the best cold air intake pipe diameter for a 3rd gen 3sge with a throttle body of 65mm (2 and 5/8").

my current setup uses 3" diameter which i think is good at the higher rpm range but i feel that i'm losing some in the bottom to mid range.

i wanted to use the same diameter as the throttle body but the only available pipe size in my location is 2.5" only.

do you think that this would be very restrictive at higher rpms?

my car is a daily driver and i use it on the track very seldom. but i run full throttle on the streets whenever possible.

thanks.

fellow pinoy...not much difference between a 2.5" and 3" intakes, difference is really only in the sound, filtration, and performance not so much. 3" intakes do sound a lot better though.

i'd just go with pipe size the same as the throttle body.
it will just bottle neck there anyways might as well keep it smooth, in any event you will notice 0 difference as really it amounts to no performance difference.

stock intake + k&n drop in + removed resonators = the bestest.

id say your best bet is to buy one off ebay.... theres a seller called chrome intakes that makes an intake made to fit your specific engine and its only like $40.... its a polished aluminum pipe with a filter that has inner and outter cone.... K&N an stuff like that are good, but for the price this is just as good if not better

air intakes in any case make you 1-3 horsepower, dunno exactly based on whatever your cars setup currently is but intake is not that noticeable in gain more of sound.

i could swear i felt my buttdyno hp increase when i dumped my eBay filter and got my fujita filter

but im running a 3inch very short ram and i have a very loud exhaust basically straight pipe with one resonator...

its sounds so awesome like 5+rpm the exhaust goes almost silent and all you hear is a loud whistling sucking noise that just makes it all worth it rolleyes.gif

thanks for your replies!

i tend to agree with playr158 regarding bottleneck.

when it comes to no performance gain or difference, that's one thing i'm not sure of.

i most of the time rely on butt dyno but it's still not quantifyable.

has anybody got a before and after dyno results on different intake pipe settings?

thank you once again.

i was joking with him.

you fail at failing.

when people hear their car more than normal their gonna feel as if its faster.
not true hp but makes you feel good having more mods than stock.

its still adding something... Evan if its only 2-4hp or so
mods add up power real quick!

length of the pipe, the different filter brands and types, the 3" diameter all make the difference in sound. in fact it changes the sound of the whole car overall.

i have read in one site lately that long CAI with small pipe improves low to mid torque, long CAI with bigger pipe improves mid range and short pipes improves the high. according to them, that is the basic guidelines. it's not specified, though, how small is small, how big is big, how long is long and how short is short smile.gif

Ive tried many different setups the type of filter and design changes sound if you know the sound of your car well. for me the apexi had a better sound than the injen, fujita, and ebay inner and outer funnel type.

2nd best sound came from the weapon r filter, it was deep like the apexi. the rest are high pitched.
