mobile post......anyhow this morning i get in, start her up and all is good. so i start driving and notice a consistant click sound coming from my cluster area. first i thought it might of been my keys hitting the bezel but its not. and its not like i can throw my head down by the steering collum while driving. while im parked it dosent click. any guesses? i was thinking faulty relay but dont know of any relays in that area. or is it possible the crappy transformer for the el gauges is about ready to crap out on me?

Turn off your turn signals rolleyes.gif

JP

Seriously, check under there~ if it's only in motion then you may have something loose. Stereo RCA plug or alot of aftermarket alarms get installed in there. Could be a relay for that or something popped out of a ziptie or something.

Yeah, its kinda wird...I thought that maybe something on the face was loose, but it wasnt. And its only makes the click when Im driving. Im getting ready to look at the wiring diagram and see what all is up in there as far as relays/connections. If anyone can think of anything, let me know!

Is it a consistent, timed clicking or a random clicking?

As you drive, try to watch the tachometer and speedometer, see if the needle vibrates with the click.

Do you have power windows? Could be your door control box - check the blue box behind the center dash, it's up just above where the gas pedal is, behind the climate control sort of. You should be able to get to it w/out taking anything apart, you just have to wiggle up in there from the floor.

Is it your odometer/trip meter ticking over?

I have a spare cluster laying around that I can send you to troubleshoot. You would need to transfer a couple bulbs and the clear cover, but its yours for the cost of shipping.

I do, and I'll check that here in a bit. So any idea why the control box would be clicking?

Maybe you lost a ground somewhere? Or a bad switch? Check all your switches and make sure they're functioning correctly.

Just got back from outside.....man is it hot! Anyhow, all the switches are working, nothing is unplugged or loose, and the grounds look good (from what I can see). So i guess I'll rip out the trim and take a drive to see if I cant isolate the noise. By the way, when Im in park and rev it dosent make the noise, so its only when I drive. Which is going to make it a pain to locate.

Watch the odometer. See if the ticking matches up with your odometer rolling over.

I will, but if my OD rolls that fast I think we are dealing with something else! But while we are at it, and I'm still in party mode...thanks for the help!

Well, Its still clicking, and by now I've pretty much drowned it out. But today I had the kid in the car, so that radio wasnt loud, and there it was. Click, two second pause, click.....by the time I got home I was really annoyed with it. I thought back to this post. Yeah, odometer rolled fine, but the trip counter was stuck and trying to roll over. Reset it and no more noise. Guess I over thought this one and dont really use the trip counter so never thought to check that. Thanks!
