hehe been there man...those 90-100 to 20mph freeway exit ramps are killers on our brakes!! lol anyway, yea, i know what u mean, my brakes were feeling very soft and non-responsive the past few months so i finally broke down and got all new rotors and pads....figured if i was gonna do it, might as well make them better, so i got drilled & slotted rotors , and it made a BIG difference. pedal feel was GREATLY improved, to say the least...it helps to use good pads too..those "bargin" autozone ones arnt too good..lol i just bought the best pads that the local "napa" ( or equvlent in ur area...lol) had. and they work great now..
stopping power is WAY better than before, and the pedal feel is sweet...makes it feel like my brakes are bigger than they are! biggrin.gif

If you've never done it, flush and bleed your brake system. Use new, high quality DOT 4 fluid (NOT SYNTHETIC DOT 5!!!) and you won't believe the difference. The stock 6th gen brakes are really quite good unless your on a track where you really get them hot (we commonly see brake temps from 1400-1600 deg F on some of the tracks we run, you'll never get above about 700 F on the street).

A big brake kit is possible. I'm thinking about prototyping and eventually marketing one. Upgrading the rotor size without upgrading the calipers is pointless so I would sell the complete kit. Rotors, pads, calipers, caliper brackets, and braided stainless lines. I think I could come up with something that would be comparable in price to other big brake kits.

I'd definitely buy it if you made it evil. What would the price be? And how big would the new brakes be do you think? Or are you just still prototyping / plannin stage?

Still just planning/gauging demand. It would probably be AP calipers and Performance Friction Slotted disks simply because thats what I have the most experience with. I've had very good luck with them on the touring cars and if they're good enough for a 2900lb (with driver) sedan on a 100+ deg day at Road America (really really hard on brakes!!) then they're good enough for us. wink.gif

i want 'em. been thinking about the possibility of making a brembo or powerstop big brake kit work, not looking very feasable. If you make a kit i'd rather save the time and hasle.
questions:
would be would they still fit under stock rims? I've got 17's i run in the summer but i use the stock ones for snow tires.
would you also consider adding in the kit a drum to disc conversion for the rear?

You can try cross drilled or slotted rotors with ceramic pads. That should help. If you wanna put some work in, you can change the the whole suspension set up and use the one from a GT4, The GT4 calipers are 4 pistons.

rolleyes.gif so i gues what im asking is there any cheap feesable way to do this or is it going to cost a bunch... because when i do the swap im going to have to go with bigger brakes... so the gt4 will work with our car??? that would be nice
also... would i need the front and rear clip or just the front because its not worth the 2500$ for the rear just for the brake assembly...

ok here is my idea on how a bigger brake kit might work.. get some used steering knuckle then buy a big brake kit and take it to a machine shop.. so they can drill the hole so you can bolt up the clipers and some and make sure the rotors are for a 5 x 100 bolt pattern.. i think BMW are the same....(don't know if this will work just and idea..)

and evil count me in for a big brake kit... and rear disc coversion kit if your think about making one of those to..

get both front and rear clip and do a full conversion... talk to qatar11 on aim for more info, thats what he is doieng right now...
basically this is what he told me

[16:40] xxxmina2: where can i get gt-4 brakes
[16:44] Qatar11: they won't fit.
[17:05] Qatar11: unless you get the
[17:05] Qatar11: whole suspension system
[17:06] Qatar11: the brakes won't mount to your struts
[17:08] Qatar11: if you want the GT4 suspension
[17:08] Qatar11: you need the GT4 steering rack

but my mechanic said he can make it fit... he is using proche 911 turbo brembo brakes on his 88 all track and his 7th gen celica...both running 2nd gen 3sgte @ 400hp+

If you live in the miami area and interested in the infamous 3sgte swap.. he is the guy to do it... he has done it countless times... claims to have done it in every generation but i think he meant the last 4 generations... IM for more info about him.

The drum to disk conversion really isn't that hard. You just need some parts of a GT and some modifications to the park brake cable. I think theres a writeup on it somewhere.

No, a big brake kit wouldn't fit under stock wheels It would probably require at least 16" wheels, maybe 17 depending on what I ended up going with.

The BMW stuff won't work, they're 5x114.5. I've already thought about it a lot, we've got a lot of used hats and rotors laying around that would be great for the street. Getting the hats made or finding ones that will work is the biggest hurdle, the caliper hanger adaptors really aren't that difficult.

I'd be in too for the big brake kit.

As for the drum to disk conversion, to anyone who has done it or looked into doing it, how much did all the parts run so I know if I'm getting ripped off when I go looking around. Thanks

Edit: Sorry I just realized I posted earlier on a similar topic, its been a long day
