I was just goofing around this morning and came across some interesting articles regarding a possible 2011 Toyota Celica:

Production version FT-86 might be called Celica

Rumors Swirl About The 2011 Toyota Celica, A Subaru-Toyota Street Legal Speed Demon

RWD 2011 TOYOTA CELICA: THE LEGEND IS REBORN

Toyobaru! Toyota FT-86 @ 2009 Tokyo Auto Show

I dunno - still "Concept" right now AFAIK.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that the articles are relatively old and probably not that valid anymore. Celica or FT-86, I want to see this thing put into production anyway.

Personally, I love Celicas, but I'd much rather see the FT86 as a direct replacement for the AE86. I'd be fine with a Celica badge on it, hell I'd be thrilled! But i hope it'll be an AE86 replacement.

As for the concept Supra... that thing is uglier than a hood scoop on a Cavalier.

There will not be another celica or another supra or another mr2. Toyota has no reason to build sports cars because they are not racing in anything major and nascar does not count. More importantly toyota has suffered a huge dent in its reputation and with oil running out they are addressing environmentally friendly market rather than anything.

So... forget about ft-86. For all we know it will manifest itself under "scion ft" model... which is a lot more likely

isnt that the same car that toyota had said would be the next supra? like 2-3 years ago.. also, can someone tell me why all the new sports cars are resembling the 350/70Z and the gtr, etc... it was cool at first, but it gets old after a while.
