Just took a time machine back to '01, just finished watching the first two movies in the series, wow. I almost forgot what bright colors and big fat body kits the tuning scene had back then. The movies are still good and fun to watch but the cars look almost ridiculous to today's scene. Anyone on the forum own their 6gc back in that era and succumbed to these trends?

That oh why god was funny jaja. I was only 16 then and didn't get my first car until i was 18 or 19, so i was never a victim of the previous scenes trends but it does show how far the car culture has come in the last 10 years or so.

Oh man ... I loved and hated that movie. I was 20 when that movie came out and had already been into the scene for 2 years. I only knew of one other kid around that was into it and I had graduated high school with him. He had a 91 Celica GT with a body kit, rims, subs and a 60 shot of nitrous. I had a cherry red 93 Civic, turbo'd with a ghetto home made kit made from an Eclipse turbo set up and a fabbed CRX manifold pushing a wopping 5psi , full exhaust, invader body kit, Primax 618 17" wheels, Type R floor mats, skunk2 drop springs, sneaky pete 20 shot of NOS (which I never actually got to use), 3 Sony Explode 10" in the trunk, Civic Type R across the windshield in white and red giant vinyl decals, factory spoiler, monitor mounted in front of the passenger seat hooked up to a PSone with Grand Turismo ever ready to be played .... I miss that car, no ... I miss the fun I had in that car. I think I would
hate that car now.

I remember going out to see the movie for the first time by myself. I was so excited that there was a movie about what I was into! But I couldn't find anyone that wanted to go to it. So I sat there by myself in awe. I especially loved the black turbo civics that were my generation. I left that movie parking lot sideways in a cloud of immature tire smoke. I saw it 3 more times with others while it was still in theaters. THEN, all of a sudden, etveryone under the age of 25 with a 2 door thought they had a sports (sporty) car. From 5 speeds to automatics and from Supra's to Chevy Berreta's and Saturn SC2's. It was a mess of crappy cars with vinyl decals, undeserving and usually misrepresenting badges/emblems bought at PepBoys/AutoZone/Advance. Those stores made a killing selling all kinds of bolt on accessories from cheese grater wings to mufflers to stickers and glowing foot pedals.

Then "Tuner" shops started springing up everywhere. They were fun at first, being able to see all the stuff in magazines and online first hand on shelves and bolted to walls. But as the popularity of the scene exploded so did the prices of all the REAL parts. Didn't matter online or in the stores, prices on performance parts and body modification parts skyrocketed. All in all, these two reasons led me to despise F&F for ever being written.

I did however go through and rewatch all of the movies at the beginning of summer for my fiances benefit. I wanted to rent and watch the latest one, but she had not seen any of the others, so I was forced to sit through them all again. And WOW can I say that the first one is HORRIBLE! The acting is poor, the dialog is HORRENDOUS, especially anything car related. It makes them sound like they have no clue what they're talking about and they're supposed to be seasoned "tuners" .... after all this movie crap and I ended up wrecking the Civic, I bought a 99 Civic Si and ditched the whole idea of body kits, vinyl decals and rims.

Terrible movie. Anyone that actually knows anything about cars should hate it. I'm normally a v8 guy anyway.

Running for thousands of dollars on 19" rims and street tires, yeah....

I know a guy that was in the 2nd movie. He got paid for being in it and got paid for his car being in it. Two checks not bad for an extra.

I think my favorite part is when Tran is surrounded by Honda's in his garage, yet he's yelling at the guy for there not being Nissan SR20 motors in them .... hmmm

My favorite was the last movie, two 4000lb chargers pulling a 10 ton safe(at least they said its 10 tons). I thought to myself, why use those two cars to pull the safe and steal it when they could just chain the entire building up to their cars and steal that instead. Much easier.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! I did NOT see that coming!

F&F may have been impossibly cheesy, but I've found that I can interject a quote from the movies into virtually any conversation. It's good, clean entertainment.

THIS ^ last weekend when Chris and Stacy were getting the megans. i told Chris, "If you can't find the right tool in THIS garage, MR.Michigan... then i don't have it." it was good for a laugh wink.gif

but imo, even with the mass amount of incorrect info in the movies, the first movie is still my favorite movie ever. It, unlike most movies now days, had a good plot. It had parts you didn't see coming. even though the cars have body-kits on them, and nissan engines in hondas. I think they still look good. I wouldn't want to drive one because of the attention i would get. (although i drive a celica with a gt4 body swap.. so i guess i kinda do..) I sometimes wish they would have stopped after the first one. not meaning the movies are bad or anything. just that to me, the rest will never be as good as the first one. BUT since they made more. I say keep them coming! cant wait for next summer for the 6th one biggrin.gif

lol I LOVED all of the f&f movies.... except the 4th one... it pissed me off seeing all those muscle cars, and then seeing a muscle car already in motion doing a wheelie in the dirt.

I love using F&F quotes anytime im bringing a friend a beer (which is usually a corona) i say "you can have any beer you want as long as its a corona"

at the cruise in meets when the honda idiots do a burn out or speed out the parking lot i yell LOUDLY "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO MONICAAAAAAAAA!!!!" the entire parking lot usually laughs

I agree! The only rally cars that sound good are subbies with anti-lag. I hate the sound of my car.
