well its not really just that kit, i mean theres like 40 diferent cheapo ones on there. i just grabbed one to post really quick.
i mean i've never seen anyone use one around here , but if they sell them all the time they can't be all garbage.. and i figure since its such a low amount of boost it wouldn't matter that much, but please feel free to correct me and increase my knowelge on the subject (: -------------------- NOVAKx17

I thought about it too and did some research and about 98% of what I read was that they are a waste of money. There is a reason adding a turbo to your car is expensive. If you could safely do it for about 600 bucks everyone would have a turbo on their car. That kit is $520 where as a name brand turbo charger by itself will cost you upwards of $1,000, if not more, before any of the other components. Personally, I would be afraid one of those kits would last about a month and then just ruin everything else. I was planning on adding boost and if I did I wouldn't do anything less than hurley97 (sorry not familiar with peoples' real names) did. But then again that build was over $6k. For that money I would most likely get another car and just keep the ST as it is. Just my opinion. |

Honestly, if I were you, I would just keep the 7a how you have it. Save up for the swap and then sell the 7a to someone who wants to do a project build. You might not get much for it but someone might be more willing to buy if it at least runs. Plus you will probably ending up putting more money into a cheap kit and taking money away from your swap fund. I promise I'm not trying to ruin your ideas lol. I am just giving my honest opinion. |

hmmm. alright. i aprecciate the input dude.
yeah hopefully ... i'm still trying to part out my 94 celica, not too much being sold locally, only on here, and not too many people want anything more than what can fit in a box and be shipped. haha -------------------- NOVAKx17

If you really wanted too, you could buy that kit, just as a starting point, youd still need, injectors($100), fmu(cheap rount for fuel management $100), fuel pump ($75), manifold($150), dump pipe($50), and i can almost garentee that intercooling piping wont fit. Theres probly other things im forgetting, but your looking at $1200 for the cheapest things you can source, plus the labor if you arent doing it yourself. And after you get it all on and get it working, youd have to start saving for a turbo because itll probly crap out in a month or two depending on how hard you run it and your boost. I did buy a 4afe starter kit(didnt know much back then) and ive been sourcing parts for 3 months, turbos still not on the car. Ive been putting money aside for a nice turbo. I only bought the kit knowing id have to replace it, just wanted to see how the car would react to boost, thats why i went cheap. It can be done, you just have to know what your getting into.

Wellllll might be going another route since you guys all say thats a BAD! idea. . ha... what do you think, would this be a good start for my turbo project? i figure garretts pretty respectable in the turbo game, unless you guys tell me otherwise....
http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/pts/1861989491.html and pretty cheap compared to the 600+ $ ones i see all the time.. -------------------- NOVAKx17

I mean you cant go wrong with a garret. If you do decided to buy that turbo, id pull it apart and make sure all the seals are good and everything is nice a tight. Im wondering if hes only selling the compressor and not the whole assembly. Id ask him to make sure its a full turbo, flange and everything(make sure to ask what flange)
