Ok so I called Toyota the other day and asked if they had a keyless entry remote for my 99. The responded with... "that car doesn't come with a VIP alarm or keyless entry system"... So I responded with then why does my car have it, they responded with "it was probly installed aftermarket"... so I responded saying that the window sticker denotes VIP and keyless entry on the options portion of the equipment. They told me that I couldn't get a remote but I got one on ebay and all is well. My questions for all you celi guys is where the hell is the beeper or antenna for the system because sometimes it doesn't beep but arms and I have to be "close" as in 5 ft or closer for it to work! any help will be greatly apperciated!! Thanks

My wife has the factory key less entry on her 96 ST. Usually the factory key less entry has the small box with the red light positioned under the right side of the steering wheel. Under the ignition. It has the "Toyota" logo on it. It's not a full alarm. It just unlocks and locks the car and if the door is opened with the key less entry armed the horn will sound like an alarm. There is no panic button. Also the factory alarm doesn't have the censor that can set it off if for example some one hits the car hard enough to set it off or walks near it. She even has the original box which only has 2 buttons and only 1 of the buttons work. As you mentioned regarding a "beep", her car once in a while will make the electronic beeping sound when the key less is armed. 99% of the time it will not make the beep sound when you lock the car or unlock it. Only the lights blink, (twice for unlock & once for lock: armed). I guess for the alarm being as old as it is doesn't make the beeping sound anymore. Isn't the factory alarm module located under the panel beneath the steering column? I know the factory alarm doesn't have that small mega phone looking piece that sits under the bonnet where most aftermarket alarms go. Seeing that the factory alarm simply uses the car's horn. Also the factory alarms frequency's range I think can reach as far as about 14ft with my wife's car.
