I'm getting a celica, at least I think I have made up my mind.
Its a UK 2.0 GT celica 184bhp. What is the best upgrade for performance. This doesn't include big expencive things like turbos or supercharge. I was thinking like superchipped £200. Weight loss? what else is there. I want it to stay a good mpg. (as I dont want to pay more on petrol) -------------------- |

Intake and exhaust would be the best thing to do.

first off the UK Gt is 174bhp stock. to release approx 8bhp - go for a decat pipe. though you will need to swap this each time you go for an MOT - and may be a bit dubious with your insurance co.. join the uk celica club (unless you already have - we have a group insurer) a decent custom exhaust - powerflow or japspeed (based in portsmouth) or a decent aftermarket exhaust.. eg blitz realize TT like i've got. then either a short ram intake with plenty of cold air feeds (minimal bhp increase but will generate a big grin) or a cold air induction kit noise and will give about 4-5bhp increase - but beware the british weather.. hope this helps. nos will also whack your insurance premium right up.
also a superchip setup for your Gt will cost you about £300-£400. A few uk members have them and they don't promote a majorly noticeable increase in the performance - but it will solve a few flatspots.. again a case of not a lot of bhp increase for your money. If you wanted to remove the stock cat and put in a high flow cat (to stay legal)that would releaae a few bhp.. JapSpeed can sort you out. |

LOL, man, I wouldn't tell my insurance company about any mods. I know insurance is different in the UK in that respect but I haven't told the ins. co. about the nitrous on my bike and I don't plan to. Everythings hidden. If I ever put nitrous on a car I'll do it the same way. I'm veeeeeery sneeky

we're lucky that the uk club insurance co are quite mod friendly. basically unless you do major mods such as supercharging they don;t add anything on - ok you pay a little bit more than a regular co.
e.g to insure my GT company x wanted £1000, if i wanted to add an induction kit, exhaust or alloys they would increase the premium each time..ie £100 for the intake OR exhaust - the alloys would require another £500 ! With the club insurer I've done the exhaust, some body mods and 17's and a 40mm drop and they only charged me £1050 for a years insurance.. also when i x'fer my other car to be insured with them they will realise i can only drive 1 car at a time and thus give me a discount on the insurance.. the other car (beater) is another Celi btw. basically like all insurance co's if they can find a reason not to pay the will, if i was unlucky to have a smash I can get it repaired to how it was - but if i hadn't declared something they would void the insurance.. these days it's not worth the risk. |

If you join the UK owners club - www.Celica-club.co.uk - you can get discounted insurance with DIG (Dorset Insurance Group) - we also have athread on insurance co's. If you did mod the intake, exhaust and decat - you'd get approx 16-20 bhp extra also good quailty plugs and leads can make a difference |

hehehe i know. all week i drive a 1.8SR(118bhp stock) (UK Limited edition) and at weekends the project comes out... 2.0GT(174bhp stock) must get around to posting a piccy of my 'twins'. Hoping that someone with an Injen kit can make an informed opinion as to whether the injen kit will fit my UK engine bay... AFAIK the inlet manifold is 70mm diameter.. hopefully the same for you 2.2 boys. so the ally pipe should fit but it's wether it'll actually fit in the engine bay.... |

Yeah man I have a nissan with 98bhp and have always wanted a fast car, looking at Subarus but the only good ones are the 2.0 turbos and there not as fast as the GT. And I cant get insurance for one intill im 25!! So i thinki'll go for GT. They quated me £850 3rd. But they quoted me £1300 for the GT-4  but thats too much. Maybe in the future.
