(dont mind the first response. was to a different question, but didnt wanna spam up the forums)
So I am going to make some z3 fenders, well the top vents anyhow, with my stock fenders I got (thanks to four-eyed-freak) all the measurements I need for the fender, and a very well detailed pic (I feel like i should leave him feedback lol). I am just wondering if anyone has ever done this before? I basically will be cutting (included a pic, because its kinda hard to explain) a "3 sided square" (yeah that made sense in my head ) and bending the metal in, liquid nail the mesh in the right spot, then bondo the edges so it looks like its supposed to. I dont think it will be too hard, but if anyone has suggestions, im all ears I will be making the fenders like ajmorris's, have been talking it over with him. So I am not making the side vents on the fenders like the z3, already have another plan for that . hopefully the progress really starts soon, and the supra SS get here:) This post has been edited by mgnt232: Jul 21, 2010 - 8:21 PM -------------------- |

I would say mask off EVERYTHING you can - strip whatever you don't need (your hood, for instance), don't plan on driving the car anywhere while you're doing it, and TAKE YOUR TIME. The better your prep job, the better the final result will be. I would also at least attempt to paint the door jambs, that way it doesn't look weird getting into your car. I don't know about actual painting (reading up myself because I have to do my fenders) but prepping is very important and shouldn't be skipped.
If you're going with a pearl color, get some sunburst pearl and stay OEM This post has been edited by Espo: Jul 20, 2010 - 12:59 PM -------------------- |

Clean isn't an option I don't think. Honestly I would do something different for a change, instead of the Z3 fender look. In fact, take a look at this video here, I would love to see these fenders recreated - they're unique AND functional. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wou8KRPGHo -------------------- |

I do like those vents, but i dont know if i have the confidence to try um though, it would be harder, and I havent even done the small z3 vents yet + I have an idea for that spot right there. Although its not at all ruled out, if the z3's end up good, i could try them
I will have the same side skirts as the celi in the vid, and the same color though. Yeah unfortunately my "taste" isnt "clean", but i do appreciate the very clean celi's out there. Different people have different dreams you sure do have another aj Are those vents in the vid. custom? im trying to find people who make their own, and cant rlly find anything. -------------------- |

I have reason to believe they're custom - I've never seen the separated pattern like that, only fenders with a single large vent.
No reason to defend your taste man, some people like kits, others like flow, others like OEM - personally I'll be adding a lip kit and non-oem side skirts in the future, but they all flow together. Whereabouts in NY are you by the way? At some point we could meet up for a photoshoot or something once you get that paint job done. -------------------- |

they are (or at least they look exaclty the same, but idk if the ones in the vid are custom made like the vents) just supra skirts. They dont just pop on, but worth the effort to fit them. Another member (RIP Aj's celi) had tried out the idea, and its not too hard to do, just cut a piece and extend with fiberglass, and you have to mold it Completely.
My Sides should be here next week (been waiting over a month, and fighting with the company) But I plan to do a very detailed how to, with the help of AJ -------------------- |

I've done this before, just a different style vent on my old '96 Eagle Talon TSI... I lay masking tape over the area im going to be cutting on, then draw my pattern on that.... Then I cut on the pattern, I like to use a die grinder. Next, push your metal in to the depth you need. If you have a dolly set you may want to use that to help maintain the curve of the fender while bending the metal or you'll get a flattened area where the metal is bent at the "joint"... I'd suggest, instead of using bondo, taking a piece of fiberglass cloth and go from behind the opening onto the top of the fender then feather it out on top to blend it to look smooth... Which will create the "walls" of the vent...I'd word that different but I'm better at showing someone then explaining, I don't plan on doing this any time soon so I can't put together an intructional thread.

Honestly the bmw3 look is very tired, and has been overdone for the last 7 years. Take the porsche caymen vents from the rear and stick them into the front fenders. There is only one guy I know that has done this and his name was madmods.

unless these vents have duct work connected to them- don't.....they are overplayed so much that bmw stopped using them( i think- even if they didn't--they should)

They're just ford Smax fender vents blended in. I'm thinking of doing that too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-S-MAX-...s#ht_995wt_1157 |
