i am like 99.9% positive it would work with just our stock hinges because it wouldnt open at the right angle and would end up like hitting the front bumper or something. but again i could be wrong. I know there are places online that sell reverse kits (universal, it takes the front of the hood up and inch or two before opening so it doesnt hit anything)
you would prob need to weld it in place, and get hood pins (as there is no hook in the front) but if you are determined and get the kit, i think it could be done. -------------------- |

yeah those stupid stock hinges would make this task difficult. it'd probably hit the lights, or something else important. I really want to do that though just for the look. Also, really nice job on the skirts for you car. They look like they were really meant to be there.

Yep, maybe not protruding over the front bumper like that, but more like how a corvette hood just opens similar to that, just the hinges being like a horizontal door hinge... If that makes any sense. Haha

From what Im picturing it would have to be welded to something up front, but you could make it so that the hinges, connect to the hood with only 4 bolts, like the stock hinges so if there is any work that needs to be done, just grab a friend (you can even do it ur self, as I did when i got my CF hood) and take out the 4 bolts, and the hood is off for any major work
but again i dont know if my idea would work, just throwing them out there -------------------- |

yeah, that's what I was thinking. If there was anything major I could just pull the hood off or something. I'm just thinking about this for the purpose of being unique.

You would need to relocate the hood latch assembly and reroute the release cable. There is a lot more to it than moving the hinges.

well i just looked into it for like 30seconds, and most of the kits are electric, so there would be alot of work in that area. But if you find a kit that is not electrified, you would just mount (and the word "just", is used VERY loosely lol) the hinges and I assume you could mount hood pins somewhere towards the windshield.
I keep envisioning different ways it could be done, and to me it doesnt seem too hard. I would make sure you can envision it, and have access to things like a welder -------------------- |

Yeah, I've got a welder, and all that jazz, and I know how to use it. I'd probably end up using some sort of hinge from lowes or someone, due to the fact that electric stuff wears out, and I don't need something like that wearing out on something as important as the hood. As far as the props go, that's what has me concerned. how am I going to keep it in the upright position?
And I'll be using mgnt232's idea. Take the hood latch, etc out, and use hood pins. Also, will that upper bar hold the hood? -------------------- 1994 Celica GT, coupe, 5 speed. Front strut brace, cherrybomb glasspack, intake. |

I wouldn't count on it. You'd probably be better off with a carbon fiber OEM style and have it painted to match.
And where would you mount the hood pins on the back? There really isn't a good place for them at the firewall. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

or possibly mount something to the firewall, that will "pertrude" out a little so that the hood pins can mount to..lol i have this whole thing mapped out in my head, but i am not the one wanting to do it .
I think the bar would support it fine, I have a CF hood and to be honest its only maybe 10 pound lighter? maybe? i mean not a huge difference our hoods are not heavy. i hope this idea starts to take off soon would love to see it -------------------- |

I'm going to start tackling this probably this weekend. I've got it mapped out with all of your help, and worst case scenario, if it doesn't work, I can always revert to stock ^^

you have to remember that a vette has alot of empty space for the hood to go where our cars do not. Also look into aftermarket hot rod style deck lid and hood hinges...would work/look better than some from lowes.
