I have tried to search some information about any possible suspension upgrade for ST205. I have found some interesting info but still missing some things... can anyone answer following questions about endlinks?

Front: anyone knows good uprgade for this? I have not found anything yet! BTW what is length of OEM ones?
Rear:
found some recommendations on Racing Beat. But just for rear... And again what is the length of OEM ones?

Thank you!

note: if anyone is confused why asking about length and not measuring it my self answer is simple -> my car is 700miles away now smile.gif

I have a few sets sat outside merrily rusting away...what measurment do you wany?

Shocks wise it depends on what money you want to spend. Avoid cheap ebay rubbish & D2 etc they just dont work on ST205s

cheapish - BC coilovers are getting acceptable reports so far but are still quite new and one or two errors are cropping up which I`m sure will be fixed soon enough (they are working on some wicked upside down shocks smile.gif )

Mid range - TRD if you can find them second hand or Tein come highly recmmended

expensive - ex TTE or proflex..say good bye to a large % of your wage packet but you wont do better.

Well as far as endlinks go, look what i just happened to stumble across...
http://gt4oc.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=99713

Also, if it was upgrades in general you are looking for, there seem to be raves about a whitline rear sway bar (adjustable or not). Then there is this good read in general about Toyota Sprint Series setups. Found to be useful myself in my plans to upgrade my suspension.

http://www.toyota-sprint-series.com/forums...mp;p=6529#p6529

QUOTE
As i told at the beginnig of the year, the purpose of Jonny entering and developing the car is to try to pass knowledge and experience to other runners, which hopefully will improve their performance.

For round 3, we tried to focus on perfecting the handling - as there is always more time to be gained by handling than chasing hp.

At the last few rounds you will remember the car sitting higher than some. This was to ensure enough shock absorber travel to absorb the bumps - otherwise it will bounce off the bump stops and lose grip and time.

After measuring the car in the workshop and testing on a fast but bumpy road, we could feel the car bouncing, and had some body roll. Also the car was high, meaning a high centre of gravity.

To fix this, we needed to do do a couple of things:
1/ Increase spring rate to reduce roll and travel of suspension
2/ Match damping to the increased spring rate ( reduce bump but keep or increase rebound)
3/ Lower car as much as possible, but keep absorber stroke to absorb bumps.

Based on experience, and with no budget to buy shorter, custom made absorbers, we simply raised the top mountong points of the suspension !
At the front we went from standard top mounts that sit below the body, to raised rose jointed ones that sit above the body.

At the rear we cut the top off the body area of the suspension mount and welded it on 50mm higher, with a band of metal welded all around to bridge the gap.

In all, we could raise the shockabsorber top by 25mm at the front and 50mm at the rear, creating this much extra travel, or allowing us to lower the car this much and keep the original travel.

Spring rate was increased 70 to 80 N/mm at the front, and 50 to 60N/mm at the rear ( to keep the same understeer/oversteer balance, but reduce the roll and stroke)

Roll bars were already the biggest available at 19mm front (C-one) and 20 mm rear (white line).

Ride height was set by measuring from the ground to the base of the sill front and rear. It was set to 145 mm all round, with the car on 225/445 x 16 tyres (which are used to lower the gearing).

Camber was about 1.7 degrees front and 1.5 rear, and rear track was parallel.

When we tested, the rebound needed 2 extra clicks, but the bump was ok, or could be reduced 2 clicks.

Overall result was corner speed increase of approx 15mph in fast corners, with good adjustability of steering input and good body control.

The engine stayed as last time with 1.4 to 1.5 bar boost. (it still hasnt been on the rolling road).

Although there was a little understeer, Jonny could pull out about 3 seconds on Adrian coming onto the straight, lose 1.5 to 2 seconds on the straight, but recover a little on the last corners to finish 1.5 seconds ahead of Adrian.

We hope several of you can benefit from this knowledge

Also of note, there have been many a good post about the TRD topmounts on GT4OC as well. I would have to spend some time digging them up though, as some are pretty old post.

Good post Nial, but I just have to add one thing, in that one of the bad reports about the BC coilovers is that you cant fully adjust the ride height, but it isnt due to any problem with the coilovers, rather the design of the ST205 suspension in general. Also, if you are looking for a simple solution, you can also go with the TEIN adjustable damnpners. I have them on my car, not by choice, but anywho, i have them to be nice even with the stock springs. Its great for when i want to "act like" im a great rally driver, lol

QUOTE
Hey Tara,

As Gary mentioned it's not BC's fault, the coilovers are full adjustable it's just that for the Superstrut implementations there are limits to the range avaliable due to the size of the hub. If it was a normal strut then the threaded section would extend further down and allow you to lower the car more.

Also don't forget when you fitted lowering springs to your normal dampers you where loosing xxmm of damper travel which in turn increases the chance of hitting the bump stops.

WIth the BC's when you adjust the ride height platform you are not adjust the spring/damper travel so maitain full damper stroke. If you want to go lower and don' mind losing the travel get some custom progressively wound springs which will increase the "sag" and hence allow the car to sit lower.

The down side is that to stop it all constantly hitting the end of travel you'd have to use springs with higher rates which can in turn result in it all becoming "crashy" like with lowering springs which ends up hurting rather than improving handling...

The idea of coilovers is to allow ride height adjustability within an avaliable range, but without affecting settings such as preload, damper travel etc. Not to provide infinite lowering ability.

found this on ebay. KYB Super Special for Street Use. looks like it's in pretty used condition and offers no ride height adjustability.

I think you can get quite a few of that stuff from a nz website www.fortyone.co.nz (*They might not have a specific c-one part listed but just ask)

Wow, they are expensive kindasad.gif

Looked at the c-one negative camber plate for the st205.
If I order the same item from fensport uk (fensport made, not c-one) it'll save me over $400!!!

true but you dont get the nice red and white C-One sticker to go with it, lol

EDIT:

Rhdjapan sells C-one parts, as well as greenline.co.jp and nengun.

well I did contact bulletproof automotive in april and I remember them tellin me that C-One doesnt make the coilovers for our ST205 or ST202 suspension anymore. C-One is like the Ohlin's suspension for toyota isn't it?? C-One coilovers would be better than TRD and Tein??
