I'm looking to rebuild my 5s out of my parts car over the next year or less.
Also, I want to change the compression ratio so I can run a turbo. I'm crapping the 3sgte idea until after college. Reason being is that my dad won't let me because he said I need to save up for college. I know I do, but I'm still tossing money into my car as I do. All I know is that I'm doing a Auto to Manual swap before college, I don't care what he says haha But anyway, I need all the specs for all the internal components for when I rebuild it. It'd be greatly appreciated if you can give me all the info! This post has been edited by mkernz22: Sep 4, 2010 - 10:24 PM |

the lack of responses is because your questions have been asked several times. please read the stickies and use the search feature.

your best solution is to read pressure's thread. hes got all you need in one place.

i keep forgetting about the stickies
but i've used the search feature plenty of times and most of the stuff is nonsense on there. I've looked for an hour or so at one point... with pressure2's thread, i do not believe he rebuilt the engine... ^it was the swap thread i read, that's why.. Alright! thank you manny!
I just got the specs and the a2m checklist from the stickies, going to hopefully get everything during the winter to spring and then do a engine and tranny swap in late spring or early summer! but those are only hopes lol |

The other thing I was wondering when I do the rebuild, I know you can buy CP Pistons, but what would be an ideal Compression ratio on the 5s with a turbo?

i would get 9:1 CR or maybe even 9.5:1 and dont let anyone tell you thats too high. we run turbos on 11.5:1 compression all day long. just have a good tune.

I'm semi new to this, but I'm getting the hang of it.
Right now we run a a 9.5:1 CR on a stock 5s. If I want to turbo it, I'll have to go up to a 11.5:1 CR, correct? |

no i mentioned 11.5:1 because that what the stock 2ZZ-GE in the 7th gen celica is, and i have been turboing them for years. the stock compression of the 5S-FE is 9.5:1, thats just fine, leave it at that.

ohhh i see, so I shouldn't go to a 8.5:1? I'm going to completely rebuild the extra 5s I have over the winter, and I want it to be able to widthstand atleast 20 psi of boost without messing up the pistons like what happened to Manny's (pressure2) 5s engine.

with a proper tune billet pistons will support 20psi no problem. no piston can withstand detonation, it just causes all sorts of trouble. Good luck with your build, im curious what pistons you get and how they hold up, i might do the same

would it be better to get concave pistons? or just stick to the ones that look the same as OEM?

imo you shouldnt waste time with a 5s.
save your money, buy a 3rd gen setup from jim. you'll actually save money in the long run. trust me. been there, done that. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I know I should do that, it's just that I want a turbo on my car before college.
If I get the 3s before college, it won't be going in my car anytime soon because I want to completely rebuild it so that I can get as power out of it as I can. A lot of my friends make fun of me cause I have a slow car. I'm sick of it! |

And what cars do your buddies drive? Sorry to break the news buddy, but you should get a different car then. If you rush and make mistakes you'll regret it. The slowest car is one that doesn't move at all. Just try to do it right the 1st time. It'll keep a on your face longer.
