QuintinGT is the guy who did it, his work was my inspiration to finally tackle it. Its been a thought of mine for years now. Here is his thread:

So in the middle of this gas cap relocation mod I stumbled across something I couldn't pass up. I bought a 97 celi w/ a 3rd gen 3sgte already swapped into it. The motor needs atleast a new clutch and possibly a few other small things before it goes into my car. I want it in my car since the 97' is a coupe and I prefer hatcbacks and I also have a lot of work done to my celi already. Not to mention that the coupe has some big dents in the door and driver side.

Anywho.. the motor will come out soon, get a little work and then drop into my celi.

the pics:

Hey, you got that car from someone off here. I remember seeing it, and wishing I had the money to go get it. Hell of a deal you got. Can't wait to see its engine in your car. Love the Vette by the way. C3 Vette is my dream car. Well, one of them anyway. tongue.gif

Make sure you "re-vamp" that intercooler piping when you do the swap. It would appear that there are a bunch of very tight turns in that set up, not to mention the cold side pipe is running right next to the downpipe.

I'm probably going to change the IC piping, all depends on how quickly I need to get this motor in the car. Any suggestions on work to do to the engine while I have it out? I was thinking..
-timing belt
-water pump
-idler pulley
-head gasket
-rear seals

Last night I gutted the interior, gonna keep some stuff, sell the rest:

The guy you bought that car from man, i would go read his thread if he has one, or maybe just the F.S. thread. Everyone always says "water pump, timing belt, idler pulley, clutch, all seals on the car" SH*T while you're at it, just get new eagle rods blah blah blha...... because the condition of the motor is unknown. You don't know who drove it, how they drove it and how they took care of it..... SO I'm willing to be when he swapped in that motor.... he did all of those things as well. Which means that you have a motor with XXXXmiles on it that he put on it. Personally, if it doesn't leak right now and isn't dryrotted.... I wouldn't waste my money and would just put the dang thing in there with MAYBE the exception of the clutch.

My .02 though

ricochet, good advice. I haven't found any threads that go into detail, but I'm just going to to get in touch with him and double check what was done. The only thing that is making me think I should do some of this work is the condition of the coolant:

I'm not sure yet if that is oil mixed in there or just rust that was in the system. So far the motor looks good though. It definitely needs a clutch while its out, but like you said the other things might be just fine.

got more done today

yeah, i just spent about an hour looking and there was some absence in 6gc presence from 2008-2009 and that appears to be when the swap was done.... so lord only knows frown.gif But I would def get a hold of him and ask. On a side note, it's an iron block so it could just be rusty.... good way to tell is if there is water in the oil. Oil in the coolant means coolant in the oil generally. But looking good! Keep up the work and the pics.

I'll check the oil next, I wouldn't be shocked if it was from rust. The engine most likely sat for some time before going into the car and rust could have developed.

I've swapped into a 94' before, but not into anything ODB2, does anyone know if I will have to change the wiring up any for it to work in my 94'?

Oil looks good, didn't see any coolant/water in the oil. I'm thinking the color is just from rust that started in the system while the engine sat for some time.

Progress:

motor is out, confirmed that the transmission/shifting problem was in fact a broken spring on the clutch disc.

A Intake Manifold with the TB on the side would be much better for the FMIC

IMO, you should get a Air-to-Air TMIC from a 5thgen celica... It might fit on there and it's stealth and easier to run the piping... you already have the GT-Four hood

Nah, I just cut that one off because I wanted to use it to loosely mock up my gas cap relocation without having to take my celi off the road for long. I also wanted some of the sheet metal for little projects here and there haha
