after a long time of searching for the right celica, i came across a deal i couldnt refuse.
i bought a celica with a perfect black leather interior and pretty good body. its a 94 2.2 gt five speed. the bad thing, was that it has a seized engine. i was planning on upgrading the block anyway so i didnt mind. my goal is to reach at least 250 whp. so im going the 5sfte route. i dont want to bother swaping for a 3sgte. i read somewhere that the 98-99 5sfe was better to use for a turbo application instead of the 93-97...*correct me if im wrong* if that is true, should i just replace my 94 block for a good running 98 block? instead of wasting time rebuilding my 94? thanks in advance, any hints to help me reach my goal will be appreciated, and constructive criticism. |

Welcome !
yes, get a 98+ low mileage engine and refresh it ( valve cover gasket, o rings, cam seals, front and rear main seals, etc ) and drop it in. you'll need to swap some components from your 94 but they are all exterior stuff related to OBD-I ( pre 96 ) enjoy and good luck with your project. -------------------- |

Thanks Culpable04, glad to be a member. and im most likely going to get a 98+ engine...but im a bit weary about changing it from obdI to obdII...im gunna search 1st before to see if theres a write up. thanks!
Smaay, LMAO!! yeah it the one from palmdale.....man that was a horrible night. i live in pomona and that was like a 1 1/2 hr drive. it was freezing out there, i got home like at 11:45pm that day..... and thanks, i will seach your builds...i know im gunna need help, so thanks alot ill pm you if i have questions. |

you're better off staying with obdI because it's a wee bit easier to pass inspection since there is no plug in port inside your car.

if your referring to smog inspection, i got it all covered...theres tons of shady shops here in souther california....lol
i couldnt find a guide to go from obdI to obdII does anyone have one, or can someone point me in the right direction? |

dont worry bout going to ODBII. yeah if you didnt get the car i was going to, i had the cash in hand. chances are your bottoom end is toast. you can buy a brand spanking new short block from toyota for about 1600. im sure your head is ok, just a few gaskets and it can all be swapped out and you are up and running.

you are not going from OBD I to IBD II, you are staying OBD I, there are some accesories that you'll need to swap from the old engine, like distribuitor and stuff like that, I don't remember exactly all the stuff that needs to be swapped, but tere was a post some time ago that had such info.

ohhh i get it now.....so its not so bad then if im staying OBDI, well anyway, i found a complete block off a 2000 camry with 40k miles on it for $900, i think thats a pretty sweet deal, unless i can spend less to rebuild the old one with forged rods, pistons etc. cause if i do get the newer block i think im going to be keeping it stock and build it like our fellow, pressure2, i think hes the one that reached about 300 whp with the stock long block??
smaay, the engine was seized but i got it crank yesterday...i poured marvel mystery oil through the spark plug hole and let it sat there since last friday morning, and yesterday it actually turned over, but i dont hear the fuel pump pressurizing and the check engine light is on. Do you know what the procedure to get the trouble codes? thanks. |

open the hood, there is a small box labled diagnostics right next to the brake booster. pop it open and stick a jumper wire in the Te and E1. the CEL will flash the code numbers. for example, code 34 wil be a ..flash..flash..flash......flash..flash..flash..flash.......
.............flash..flash..flash......flash..flash..flash..fl ash, get it? even if you got that engine to turn over. there is too much damage inside to salvage. that camry engine will work just fine. get that for 900, and put your head on it. then rock and roll. i can halp you with the swap if you bring the car back up here. unfortunatly i cant come down there. but i have everything here to do the job. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo
