Hello I just swapped my rear brake pads and rotors for new ones on my 94 gt. One side turned out like brakes normally do new, the wheel turns by hand with a little resistance. The other side is a different story. I could not turn the wheel with both hands at all and I had to pound the caliper to get it on even though I had the piston pressed in all the way. I tried the old rotor and it was the same so its not the new rotor.

-Can a poorly made set of brake pads cause this from being too thick?

-It looks like the outside pad is too thick, that's my guess.... I got the pads from rock auto so I can't just take em back.....

-ANyone experienced something similar?

Have you put the car on the ground and tried the brakes out yet?

Check the slides on the caliper. They could be seized, you can try cleaning and re-greasing them. I just worked on my brakes a few hours ago and i was having a tough time with my rear brakes also. My slides on 1 side were seized and it was difficult to turn the rotor with the caliper on. Cleaned + greased them and i was good to go.

Thanks for the replies guys. the car is not going to be driveable for some time otherwise I would have tested it out. I have never looked at the slides before. I didn't realize they moved I thought the caliper was one solid peice with only the piston moving the inside pad. I'll have to look at them again....
what purpose do the slides serve?

what your thinking about is a fixed caliper. we have what they call a floating caliper. floating calipers do just as the name says, they float. The caliper bracket is bolted to the hub via 2 bolts. Then the caliper bolts to the caliper bracket, usually 1 or 2 bolts. without brake pads you should be able to slide the caliper back and forth, if you can't then it's seized and needs to be cleaned. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...=1t:429,r:1,s:0 There's an exploded view of what a floating caliper is. Youll be able to see the support bracket and slides better than me failing at describing them laugh.gif its not an exact match to ours but the general idea of it.

Good call I just went outside and tried to pull the slides on my front caliper and one came out and one snapped off inside the pad bracket!!!! Can we just get the pad bracket not the whole caliper? It's either that or get a whole new caliper or drill out the entire slide stud. Not good and I've got 3 more to look at that I just painted........

Well I just priced caliper brackets they are like $20 a piece and the whole caliper is like $60. So it looks like I will be drilling out the stud or trying to anyway!!!!! Thanks for opening my eyes to how these suckers work. But now I almost wish I didn't know I thought I was done with my calipers!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHH I hate Wisconsin rust!!!!@!!!!!!@@@@@!!!!AAAAh

What the....?!?! I have to pay $120 for the caliper and bracket with trading the core in. Where in Wisconsin are you and where did you find those at? I need a new bracket as well cuz i stripped the threads out of mine. Lol. They don't even offer the support bracket by itself in appleton. It's either a dealer item or Wally's U Pull It. Billy Gibson's only had 1 6th gen but had like 5 5th gens. kindasad.gif
If you live near appleton, let me know. I may be able to help. You can slide the Support bracket off the Caliper so if there are any threads sticking out you can turn it out with a vice grips.(thats basically what i did.)

Hi there, I'm way north of appleton. Otherwise I'd stop in. Anyway I got my numbers off of RockAuto the online website they have a good company based out of WI. The other place I looked up was at Oreilly's. Plus don't quote me on those prices but give those 2 a shot and I think you will be pleased! Today I greased all my slides in the back and no more problems so that was the issue!!!!
